概要

The Anatomy of Modern Romance Scams examines how long-term, attachment-driven deception operates beneath what are commonly called “romance scams.” This series explores the structural components that allow emotional bonds to form, trust to be manipulated, and measurable harm to unfold across emotional, relational, intellectual, and financial dimensions.

Each episode approaches the subject as educators, breaking down the psychological, relational, and financial elements involved in attachment-based emotional and financial deception. Survivor experiences, expert perspectives, and structured analysis are used to deepen understanding and clarify prevention.

Through sequential modules and thoughtful discussion, this podcast aims to increase awareness, restore clarity, and strengthen prevention—one component at a time.

  • Episode 10 – The First Money Talk… and the Alarms Get Silenced
    2026/03/20

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode, I take you to the moment when money first enters the relationship — and something doesn’t feel right.

By this point, the connection feels real. Trust has been built. The relationship feels genuine. But when money is introduced, the first alarm bells start to go off.

They’re not loud. They’re not obvious. But they’re there.

And instead of stopping, I explain how those alarms get silenced — through trust, emotion, reassurance, and the belief that “this is different.”

This is not where the scam starts.
This is where the first real test happens.

Understanding this moment is critical, because this is where people begin crossing a line they may not be able to come back from.

If you or someone you care about is involved in an online relationship where money is being discussed, this is the point where you need to stop and take a hard look. A VERY hard look...

  • Episode 9 – Why Intelligent People Fall for Romance Scams (The Attachment Override Model)

In this episode, I explore what I call the Attachment Override Model — the moment when emotional commitment becomes strong enough to override logic, skepticism, and even intelligence.

During one of my recent sleepless nights, I watched the film Nuremberg, and a powerful moment in that story helped me connect an important psychological dot. It helped me better understand how intelligent people can remain committed to a vision even when the evidence says they should walk away.

That same dynamic often appears in romance scams and crypto investment scams. In my own experience, the vision of what we believed we could build together — something meaningful for family and friends — became emotionally powerful enough that warning signs became harder and harder to see.

If families are trying to understand how a loved one could become involved in one of these scams, I hope this episode helps explain why emotional attachment can sometimes override common sense.

Understanding that dynamic is one of the first steps toward healing — and toward recognizing the pattern before it happens again.

  • Episode 8 – Why Understanding the “How” Matters
    2026/03/15

Before I continue the timeline of what happened to me, I wanted to pause for a moment and talk about something that is critical to understanding these scams — the “how.”

In this episode I step back from the mechanics of the story to explain why understanding how these romance scams actually take hold is so important. These operations are not simple financial scams. They are carefully orchestrated emotional manipulations designed to build trust, create connection, and slowly guide victims toward decisions that feel real in the moment.

I’m not sharing this to lecture anyone. I’m sharing it because I wish someone had explained these things to me before it happened.

If understanding the how helps even one person recognize the warning signs early, block a message, or walk away from a situation that feels wrong, then sharing this painful experience again, will be worth it.

In the next episode, I will return with very specific instances of the mechanics related to the financial transactioons...

In the next episode, I return to the timeline and begin walking through the specific moments when the financial mechanics of the scam began to unfold.
