The Adventures of Philip Marlowe presents “The Tale of the Mermaid,” episode 52, originally broadcast on CBS on October 1, 1949. Gerald Mohr stars as Raymond Chandler’s hard-boiled Los Angeles private detective.

A traffic accident outside Marlowe’s office sends him toward the waterfront, where a murder case, a glittering mermaid, and a great deal of money lead into a dangerous web of greed and deception. This 30-minute sustaining broadcast was written by Gene Levitt and Robert Mitchell and directed by Norman Macdonnell.
