I'm calling it the AI Augmentation Trap. And here's the thing — it doesn't announce itself. You don't feel yourself falling into it. It feels like progress. It is progress, in a way. You're producing more, responding faster, thinking at scale you couldn't before. But there's a question underneath all of that, and it doesn't get asked enough.

Are you getting smarter — or is the tool getting smarter while you coast?

That's what we're unpacking today.

Let me paint you a picture.

Eighteen months ago, you'd sit down to write a brief, a report, a proposal — whatever it is in your world — and you'd stare at a blank page for twenty minutes. You'd draft something, hate it, rewrite a paragraph three times. You'd wrestle with it. And eventually, you'd produce something that was genuinely yours.

Now? You open a chat window, describe what you need, get a solid first draft in forty seconds, tweak it a little, send it. Done.

And it is faster. Let's be honest about that. There's real value there. I'm not one of those people who's going to tell you to go back to doing everything manually to build character. That's not where I'm going with this.

But here's the question: over time, what happens to your ability to wrestle with the page? What happens to the twenty minutes of staring, of thinking, of not knowing — which is actually where a lot of your best ideas used to come from?
