The Hell Fire Club

One of Ireland's most infamous and mysterious landmarks..

Perched high on Montpelier Hill overlooking Dublin, the Hell Fire Club has been surrounded by stories of hauntings, folklore and dark gatherings for centuries.

In this Temple Library entry, we explore the history behind the building, the legend of the ancient Neolithic stones used in its construction, and some of the eerie tales that have kept people fascinated for generations.

The footage in this video was filmed during one of my camping trips in the forest behind the Hell Fire Club, making this a very personal journey into one of Ireland's most intriguing places

Often misunderstood or dismissed, these remarkable stone carvings have fascinated historians, folklorists and spiritual seekers for centuries. Were they warnings against lust, symbols of fertility, guardians of sacred spaces, or something far older that we've forgotten?

In this Temple Library entry, we explore the history, symbolism and folklore surrounding the Sheela na Gig, while reflecting on what these enigmatic figures can still teach us today.

Perhaps the greatest mystery isn't what they meant in the past... but what they awaken in us now.

In this final entry of the Remembrance Series, we explore the hidden history of women's healthcare in Ireland and the experiences of generations of women whose voices were often ignored, silenced, or dismissed.

From institutional control and reproductive healthcare to the lived realities faced by women across different periods of Irish history, this episode reflects on a complex and often painful legacy that continues to shape conversations today.

As with all Temple Library entries, this is not simply about remembering the past. It is about bearing witness, honouring those who came before us, and reflecting on what these stories can teach us about autonomy, dignity, sovereignty, and healing.

In this Temple Library entry, we continue walking through the hidden wounds carried within Ireland’s history, moving into the stories, silence, and systemic harm connected to Christian Brothers institutions.

This episode is created as an act of remembrance.

A witnessing.

A refusal to look away from the stories survivors carried for decades in silence.

Together, we will look at

- the history of the Christian Brothers in Ireland

- institutional violence and fear

- the culture of silence and control

- the impact on generations of Irish people

- and the deeper threads of shame, power, and containment woven through Irish history.
