Jesus did not come to make everyone comfortable. When He walked into the temple in Mark 11, He overturned tables, drove out merchants, and confronted a system that had turned a house of prayer into a marketplace built on exploitation. The money changers were gouging pilgrims, the cost of sacrifices had been inflated beyond what the poor could afford, and the outer courts where Gentiles were permitted to worship had been crowded out by commerce. Jesus quoted Isaiah 56 to remind everyone that God's house was always meant to be a place of prayer for all nations, not a profit center for the powerful. This moment raises an honest question for the church today: are there barriers in our communities, or in our own lives, that are keeping people from experiencing the love of God? Jesus overturned tables not to cause chaos, but to restore access and dignity to those who had been pushed out. He calls us to do the same.
