The holidays are right around the corner, and with them come travel, parties, family gatherings, and plenty of seasonal treats. It’s a fun time of year, but it can also bring a lot of stress when it comes to sticking to your fitness routine and healthy habits. If you’ve ever felt like your progress disappears every November and December, you’re not alone.

In this episode, I break down how to prepare for the holiday season without losing your momentum. I share simple, realistic ways to move your body when your schedule is packed, and how to enjoy holiday food without guilt or restriction. You’ll learn how to shift away from the all-or-nothing mindset and focus on progress over perfection. Because a few weeks of celebration shouldn’t undo months of hard work.

I also talk about setting intentions instead of rigid resolutions, staying grounded when routines change, and finding joy in the flexibility that this season brings. Whether you’re traveling, juggling events, or just trying to make it through the holidays feeling good in your body, this episode will help you find a rhythm that actually works.

By the end, you’ll walk away with a new perspective on holiday health. One that leaves room for both cookies and consistency. Because fitness during the holidays shouldn’t feel like punishment. It should feel empowering, sustainable, and full of grace.

  • Exercising with Hypermobility and EDS: What to Avoid and What to Do Instead | Episode 26
    2025/10/01

    Send me a text

In this episode of Talk Your Abs Off, I sit down with Dr. Cheryl Mitchell, a physical therapist who specializes in working with patients living with hypermobility and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). Together, we break down what hypermobility and EDS really mean, how they show up in patients and clients, and why it’s so important to understand the difference between being “flexible” and having a connective tissue disorder.

We discuss the subtle signs of hypermobility that both trainers and physical therapists notice first, from joint laxity to frequent aches, and how those signs can easily be overlooked or misinterpreted. A big part of our conversation revolves around stabilization and strength. Many hypermobile clients think they need to stretch more, but in reality, their bodies benefit far more from strength training, joint stability, and controlled movement.

We also dive into how people with hypermobility and EDS often experience discomfort differently than the average person, and why understanding that pain perspective is crucial for both trainers and patients. Recovery is another important topic—because fatigue, flare-ups, and slower healing often look very different for someone with EDS compared to the general population.

We touch on exercise selection, talking about which movements or activities should be approached with caution and which can be modified to build strength without risking subluxations or joint pain. You’ll also hear practical tips on underrated tools and strategies that support joint stability and daily pain management.

Most importantly, we wrap up with encouragement. Dr. Cheryl shares what she wishes every hypermobile person knew about their body and gives empowering advice for anyone who feels fearful of exercise or discouraged by repeated setbacks. If you or your clients are living with hypermobility or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, this episode will give you a mix of education, strategies, and hope that movement can be safe, effective, and even enjoyable.

    2025/09/01

    Send me a text

Are you tired of complicated diets, food rules, and nutrition overwhelm? My guest today, EC Synkowski, Licensed Dietician Nutritionist and founder of OptimizeMe Nutrition, is here to simplify things with her famous 800g Challenge.

The 800g Challenge is a straightforward yet powerful way to improve your nutrition—by focusing on adding more fruits and vegetables, not restricting foods. EC breaks down how the challenge works, why she created it, and the surprising benefits people experience when they consistently aim for 800 grams of produce each day.

    We talk about:

    • What the 800g Challenge is and how it works
    • Why eating more fruits and vegetables leads to better health without dieting
    • Easy hacks for tracking your 800 grams without obsessing
    • What counts (and doesn’t count) in the challenge—like canned produce, juice, and potatoes
    • How this approach fits alongside other nutrition strategies (macros, calorie counting, intermittent fasting)
    • Why fruit isn’t the enemy, even if it has carbs
    • EC’s go-to foods and how she makes the challenge work in her own life

If you’ve ever struggled with food tracking, dieting rules, or just want a sustainable, simple way to eat better, this conversation will give you the clarity and encouragement you need.

Tune in to learn how the 800g Challenge can help you eat more, diet less, and enjoy food without the stress.
