  • SBTI Season 2 Trailer
    2024/12/12
Hi there! It’s Dan from the Success Before the Internet Podcast. I am gearing up for season two and it is turning out to be a good one! This season we are going to look at the personalities of many people who gained success, notoriety and maybe infamy way before the internet ever took shape. For example, was Henry Ford a narcissist? Or why did Howard Hughes have such a germ phobia? Here’s a good one...did Napoleon have short-man syndrome, or did we just make that up? I will be looking at these topics and many more. The new season will be starting in the new year, so in the meantime, why don’t you listen to previous episodes at successbeforetheinternet.com. Please drop me a line at successbeforetheinternet@gmail.com for any ideas for future shows. You will get a shout out if you do. You can support the show by going to successbeforetheinternet.coam and click the link support SBTI on Tip Jar. Thanks! So, remember, there was success before the internet, we just forgot!

  • SBTI Episode #9 Before Amazon Part 1 - FedEx
    2024/08/15
Ahh, isn’t it easy to have things delivered these days? It just seems with a click of a mouse or a tap on your smartphone app you can get pretty much anything delivered. Did you know Doordash will deliver batteries to your house on demand? I saw a commercial the other day where the announcer proclaimed, “your remote-control batteries are dying all the time” and encouraged you to go order fresh ones from door dash. If you have listened to my previous episodes, Episode #1 on Robber Barons, where you will hear about the origins of Amazon and Jeff Bezos and in Episode # 6 , where I talk about the origins of Food Delivery, you can see how far we have come with regards to the internet’s involvement with our day to day lives. But this podcast is called success before the internet, so as you know I like to talk about things that happened before this glorious invention or phenomenon that has its roots before the internet, even though these phenomena are well entrenched in our daily lives. This is a two-part series so, listen on for more!

  • SBTI Episode #8 Erectile Dysfunction
    2024/08/01
Erectile dysfunction has been a concern for men since the beginning of written history. For many men it can lead to severe psychological distress and humiliation. The treatment of erectile dysfunction has advanced significantly over the past 200 years. So before the internet LOL! On March 27th 1998, when the Internet was starting to become a force to be reckoned with commercially, a medically miracle became available to men who had problems….uh hem…down there. And when I say down there, I mean erectile dysfunction or impotency as it was known in older times. Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a term we hear frequently nowadays. On television, on the radio, in magazines, and on the internet, we are bombarded with advice on how to deal with ED, advertisements for medications to treat it, and articles for partners of the men who have it. With this apparently sudden explosion in interest, you’d be forgiven for thinking that ED was a 20th century invention. In this episode, we will look at how it was treated well before the "little blue pill" was discovered. Enjoy!

  • SBTI Episode #7 Hacking
    2024/07/15
If you grew up in the 80’s you probably remember the movie war games. It was where a bright high school kid hacks into a Department of Defense computer, thinking it is a gaming company. It’s a great movie. I suggest you check it out. It is probably on a streaming platform somewhere…. Hacking was different before the Internet. Of course, it goes back way before you think…. You have already heard this if you have already listened to my previous podcast on Food Delivery...Once again it was the 19th century. Enjoy this one! Remember to go to Apple podcasts and give the show a five – star rating and share the podcast with anyone who you think would enjoy it. • SBTI Episode #6 Food Delivery
    2024/06/30
If you grew up in the 1970’s and 80’s like I did, you probably went crazy when your Mom or Dad said “we are going to order a pizza”. You might not have much to say what was going to be on the pizza, but you didn’t care! You were getting food delivered! It’s hard to imagine that food delivery was not this common until just a few years ago. Until a few decades ago, it wasn’t available at all… or was it? Have you ever wondered when and how the first food delivery took place in history? My research has shown that it goes back as far as the 19th century. Take that…skip the dishes.

  • SBTI Episode #5 Music Sharing
    2024/06/15
In this episode, I am going to only talk about a pre-Internet version of this phenomenon. The reason being is that it is so ubiquitous now that you really don’t need a history of it. You more than likely use it every day. I know I do. Can you guess? I will give you a hint. Do you like music? Do you stream it or share it? You know, it was a more personal experience before the internet, and it was not very easy to share. In fact, in some cases it was illegal to do so. Basically, ever since we were able to record and mass produce music in some form, we have had the knack for sharing it.

  • SBTI Episode #4 Dating
    2024/05/15
Do you remember how you met your partner? Did you use a tried and true method to do it or did you use one of those fancy services or apps that we are all too familiar with this days. Before Dating apps like tinder, Grindr, Bumble or Lolly there was eHarmony and Match.com. Even before that there was different type of services that used computers and video to match potential mates. All precursors to what we know today and waaaaaay before the internet! Listen to this episode where I dive into the (not so) brief history of dating services. You will not believe how far back it goes! Support the show by leaving a 5 start review. Tip the show by going to https://www.successbeforetheinternet.com/support-sbti/
