  • How to Write a Better Mental Script
    2022/02/16

The philosopher Hannah Montana once famously pondered upon how life could be like a movie. In this Subconsciously Steel Maggie podcast episode, I agree with Montana, and raise her one more.

We are all playing a character of some kind. Each of us has a "personality," or a pattern of traits which we identify with and label with the word "I." These collections of traits, memories, thoughts, feelings, habits, all play out on the individual movie screens of our lives, whether we are conscious or unconscious to our roles regarding reality creation. A lot of people are going through life absolutely hating the movie that's playing, and don't believe they can consciously choose a different "movie."

Today I'm talking about exactly how you can select a better plot, write a new script, rehearse with the actors, and film the movie of your conscious choice, all in the quantum theater of your mind.

I will quote another late 2000s icon and leave you to enjoy the podcast episode: "The rest is still unwritten." - Natasha Bedingfield.

  • The Alternative Gratitude List
    2022/02/09

Do you feel like you just can't find things you're genuinely "grateful for," without forcing the issue? Are you getting more and more frustrated with this allegedly "secret sauce" element to reality creation?

If I had a dollar for every time I've run into that mental dead end! And when you listen to the majority of opinions on gratitude, about embodying the state of gratitude, the further you seem to run from simple peace of mind. "Why doesn't this come easy to me??" I get it man.

How can you create what you want to experience from the mental space of not having it, and then add in the frustration of knowing that you're not in the "abundance state" and can't seem to get to it no matter how much you've been trying? The answer is, you don't! But we're going to change that today.

With all the conflicting information and vague woo-woo LOA phrasing out there about gratitude, the solution I'm proposing today is to make a simple shift in wording. When I implemented this tiny mental pivot, it made all the difference in my ability to actually feel good about where I am in my life right here and now.

So you find the concept or feeling of "gratitude" to be inaccessible or if you feel completely fake making a gratitude list, even though you are told it's a game-changer for what you're experiencing in your life (and it is), this episode is absolutely 110% for YOU. It's a banger.

    Episode highlights:

    -How gratitude ACTUALLY works

-The Alternative Gratitude List and examples of how you can try it out for yourself

-Your thoughts are actions in the quantum realm

-The only thing you "have to do"

-Why you want to become friends with your subconscious mind

-The song "Warmth of the Sun" by the Beach Boys as an awesome example of alternative gratitude.

  • I'm Back!! Let's Talk About the Law of Mind
    2022/02/01

Beautiful creators!! I'm back!! It's SO GOOD to be here with you again. Like coming home after a long trip, eating a full home-cooked meal, and taking a hot shower. That's how recording this episode felt. I have no regrets regarding my hiatus, but damn if I almost felt a twinge during initial production!

To re-introduce myself, my name is Steel Maggie, and I'm a songwriter, vocalist, and dance pop demigoddess. This is my podcast, Subconsciously Steel Maggie, formerly known as Mind Made Wrong. If this is your first episode, welcome! If you're returning, thank you for holding it down with your loyalty. I'm truly indebted to you.

My topical focus has shifted away from "coping" and "working through" mental health situations, towards understanding and using the power of the subconscious mind to consciously create what you most desire to experience in your life. This first episode returning is an overview of the Law of Mind, foundational Hermetic principles, and reality creation. I clear up terms, phrases, and attitudes that mar the impact of the "manifesting" community and distract you from developing your own connection to the infinite intelligence within. This episode is essentially an outline of what I'll be covering in following episodes to come, which is why it's a helpful overview, especially if you're new to this way of thinking.

Even though the podcast name has changed and my topics have narrowed in niche, I guarantee, I vow to you, that you will find even more value and actionable inspiration in the episodes to come than ever before.

By the way, I'm so thrilled and grateful to see that despite my long and unannounced hiatus, that you're still coming through for this podcast all over the world, from Los Angeles, to Brazil, to Ireland, to France and beyond. My listener analytics from this past year and a half from being away really surprised me, let alone that all you podcast listeners, Mind Made Wrong veterans and newcomers alike, were still downloading and listening to the old catalogue of episodes. This confirms to me that the content I'm creating remains right on time, both intellectually and spiritually. I want to follow that compass always, so your downloads, subscriptions, follows, episode plays, and reviews keep me aligned what I set out to do back in 2019 with this podcast.

You may notice I have removed a number of past episodes from the catalog. One or two of these were taken down by the request of the interviewed guest, but a majority have been removed because I no longer align with the message (or like...the general vibe, man) of those interviews. No bad blood, nothing personal - the messaging of the interviews made sense for Mind Made Wrong, but they don't fit Subconsciously Steel Maggie. The solo episodes that have been removed are due to the same reason - I no longer agree with what I said nor identify with my thought process at the time of a particular episode's publishing.

    2020/08/18

My beautiful creators, a queen cannot live on bread alone… that’s why I asked Dexie, artist divine, former Mind Made Wrong guest, my soul sister and birthday twin, to come back and deliver us a second serving.  This interview dives deep into the truths of artistry, creativity, and self-worth.  Please stay for dinner, it’s your favorite meal, home-cooked with love.

My favorite moments in Dexie: The Second Course

-Private vs. public presentation: the scarcity-based belief that leads you to creative burn-out

-You create a product that is for consumption, but you are not for consumption.

-Look forward to “Dish with Dexie,” the podcast!

-Audio journaling as a mode of therapy

-You’re never going to feel “ready” - The immeasurable value of B-minus work.

-The new meaning of Dexie’s song “Lay With Me,” and why it is so important to her mental health journey, as an ode to self-care and self-worth

-There is nothing wrong with a sabbatical, and in fact, we think it’s crucial to artistic Renaissance.  Dexie shares her personal experience this year with taking a break from songwriting.

-The attitude about releasing music and content that every single artist should have!!

-Why it’s your ultimate DUTY as an artist to know your worth.

-Live your life as a work of art because art lives as a work of YOU.

  • MMW 54 - When You Overcommit
    2020/07/20

Hello my beautiful creators!  Today we’re talking about overcommitment.  Some of you might simply read that word “overcommitment” and you just KNOW it’s you.  Some of you may not know yet - but you’re about to find out.  I’m spilling ALLLLL the beans on how I have been Overcommitter Supreme this summer.  I’m sharing this much today, possibly oversharing, because it is incredibly important to me that if you are also a chronic overcommitter, that you can recognize yourself in as many situations as possible, and you become aware and have the tools to break free from this cycle.  Why?  Because I know you want to succeed and be profitable in your artistry.  Committing to everything is committing to nothing, certainly not success.  You and I are in this together, and we succeed together by using our mental health experiences as superpowers for creativity and change.  But this means we have to make discerning and vision-informed choices.  This means we have to prune.  This means we stop overcommitting.

“Overcommitment is the divorce of clarity and priority from your vision."

    2020/05/25

  • MMW 48 - The Art of Self-Acceptance - Hope Littwin: Part 2
    2020/04/20

Hello beautiful creators! The incomparable, bold, and unmistakably talented Hope Littwin is back for the second half of her interview, where she expands upon her journey to worthy, and generously grants us incredible insights on self-acceptance, artistic integrity, self-care, and honoring her boundaries.

My favorite moments in Part 2:

-Hope gives us a week FREE of BetterHelp.com: https://www.betterhelp.com/rpc/35e926db347781a601

-On her mindset shift to worthiness:  “Instead of thinking ‘how cheaply can I possibly do this,’ I’m working on ‘how BIG can I possibly think, how much can I ask for?’”

-How Hope assembles her “army of self care.”

-Negative self-talk is actually a comment on “I feel shame, I feel like I’m not worthy,” the more you dig into it, it’s like this is what you’re actually saying underneath your complaint.

-Protecting her energy: “I cover my head...it’s like a boundary; I’m here, you’re there, and I don’t have to participate in your negative energy.

-The emotional displacement caused by episodes: “I think that’s a question of self-acceptance and compassion for self, to recognize that this is happening, it’s not the end of the world, but it still sucks, but there’s also something in here that could be valuable, so how do I think about this situation differently, and prove to myself that it’s useful.”

-“To get to that place of understanding why you do what you do and where your integrity is with what you’re gonna share, is hard work, and it’s valuable work, and I think we have a responsibility as creators to do that work.”

  • MMW 47 - Creation is a Conversation - Hope Littwin: Part 1
    2020/04/13

Hello beautiful creators! :) Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, composer and recording artist, Hope Littwin, joins me today to have a vivid and vital conversation about the intersection of creativity and mental health.  After finding herself trapped in the artistic and monetary confines of the high-art conservatory world, Hope shares with us how she is becoming an independent artist in every sense of the word.

My favorite moments in Part 1:

-The value of going back to your foundations when things get tough: ”Any time you have something that flips your life around...you start asking yourself very different questions, It’s scary, but it’s a very valuable question” - “Who am I if I can’t do my art?”

-The human race essentially makes art in order to have and continue a conversation: “Art is much more about dialogue than anything else, I don’t create in a vacuum...I don’t create just for myself.”

-On acting despite fear: “The only way out is through.”  If you’re avoiding something, it is controlling you.

-“Create in the circumstance that is the most terrifying for you over and over again. You can’t not face it.”

-Hope’s view on the balance between labels of diagnoses and self-evaluation:  “I was afraid that I would allow someone else’s opinion, which could completely be misled, to then define how I view myself.  I want to be the person who defines myself. I’m willing to face myself on a daily basis. At the end of the day I don’t want to be at someone else’s door being like “what’s wrong with me.”  I have my own tools to say “ok I’ve been here before, here’s my list of tools I can use to bring myself back, and maybe one of which is calling someone who is a professional who can help me, but I kind of know when that’s the option that I want, and when it’s not.”
