  • Xanthenius läser - Barnet höll dig i handen
    2024/03/30

    2022/10/21

Time for another storytime. This time, we are talking about a wedding.

A holy or sacred marriage does not simply refer to the sanctity of any marriage but that of a god and goddess to ensure the fertility and prosperity of the community. A tradition that is still alive to this day.

Once again, my story will take its inspiration from the rock art world. Scenes depicting the union of an intertwined pair, interpreted as the sacred marriage of two divinities, are present in rock art iconography spanning from bronze-age Scandinavia via the Mediterranian region to Minoan culture but perhaps most often cited in the Near East.

A hopefully relaxing story that also further explores our shared human heritage and our quest to bring order and understanding to an often confusing world.

  • The Wisdom of the Stag
    2022/10/07

From Scandinavia to Ireland, in Greek and Roman as well as Native American mythology, the deer play an important part and has left a substantial mark. Sometimes literally in the form of rock art packed or painted onto the stone.

The role of the stag seems to have a duality to it. They can take the form of a natural disaster, a life-giver, a protector and an avenger.

As always, I hope this might serve as an educational but relaxing listen.

  • The Story of the Sun and Moon
    2022/09/23

Another day another story, but we keep on the theme from the last episode.

Living in an unruly world, subjected to wind, rain, ebb, flood and scorching sun, we humans have sought meaning and reason in religion, mythology and science. A quest that is very active still.

In another episode, we will explore ancient Scandinavian cosmology through storytelling.

This is the story of the Sun and Moon based on the Norse sagas written down by Snorri Sturluson during the 13th century.
