 On August 16, 1819, approximately 60,000 people converged at St. Peter‚As Fields in Manchester, united in their demand for parliamentary reform. What began as a peaceful rally turned tragic when a troop of Hussars and local yeomanry charged into the crowd, brandishing clubs, swords, and sabres, resulting in 18 fatalities and over 700 injuries.
