In Episode 8 we are wrapping things up. Reflecting on and recollecting discussions from Episode 1 –7.

In Episode 7 we discuss how gift giving is embedded into South Asian culture, how they can be abstract and how they can also transform into tricks. We also looked at how tricks can impact one and how they too can be a blessing in disguise.

In episode six we explore the significance settings in the epic, in some cases we saw it in the eyes of symbolism, in some cases we saw it as key tools to getting a better understanding of the story and a tool used to carry the flow of the plot. As Christy mentioned in the start, settings can be seen as significant as the central characters of the story.

Episode 5: Animals as Metaphors for Human Concerns

In the fifth episode we discuss the stories of animals as metaphors for human concerns in the epic.

In the fourth episode we discuss the stories of the predominant male characters of the epic, specifically Kunnutaiya, Shambuga and the twin brothers Ponnar and Shankar. Their stories lead us in the discussion of being a great leader, the topic of caste, Karma and the concept of being in balance.

In the third episode of the Stories from the Land of the Golden River, the Storytellers explore the challenges Tamarai faced in her journey, talking specifically about the theme of mental health. The Storytellers and Dr. Brenda Beck explores how Tamarai conquers these challenges and they are relevant in the present day.
