Laura Black was a young computer engineer who was beginning her career in Silicon Valley. Laura repeatedly rejected his advances, but Farley refused to accept that their relationship was strictly professional. His behavior escalated from unwanted attention and gifts to following Laura, obtaining her personal information, threats, harassment, and increasingly frightening acts of intimidation.
