 We find our narrator in the midst of a farewell celebration to mark the departure of some of the townsfolk of Sokvaapit, leaving aboard a ship named the Hascalia. He tells of his visit to the Physician's Hall, the town's place of healing, where he meet the two young people who survived from the party who attempted to walk the forest road to the old capital, and in his conversation with one of the survivors finds more questions than answers.
