  • Ep 22: Sober Songs - Michael Levin's Off-Broadway Musical on Addiction and Recovery
    2025/09/09

I would love to hear from you. Send me a text here.

Episode 22: Sober Songs – Michael Levin’s Off-Broadway Musical on Addiction and Recovery

Have you ever felt like you were catching lightning in a bottle—only to lose it in an instant? That’s exactly what happened when I interviewed Michael Levin, the bestselling author, musician, and creator of the new Off-Broadway musical Sober Songs.

Due to a technical issue, the full interview wasn’t captured—but I didn’t want you to miss the powerful insights, stories, and heart behind this show. In this episode, I share highlights from our conversation: Michael’s journey in recovery, his background as a writer and musician (including playing in a band with Stephen King), and the inspiration behind Sober Songs.

    🎭 About the Play
Sober Songs is set in a Brooklyn AA meeting and brings together characters you’ll recognize from recovery rooms everywhere—Cap, Dean, Roque, Angie, Nina, and Bri. Through songs that are both hilarious (“And I’m an Alcoholic”) and deeply moving (“Three Drinks from Normal”), the play captures the humor, heartbreak, and hope of sobriety.

    More Than a Musical
After each performance, Michael invites audience members to a local coffee shop to connect, share, and build community—because recovery is about more than entertainment, it’s about relationships. Michael himself will be there to greet and talk with attendees.

    📍 When & Where
Sober Songs is running at Theatre Row’s Theatre Three in New York City. Previews began August 30, 2025, it officially opened September 6, and it will close on September 28, 2025. This is a limited run—don’t miss your chance to experience it live.

In this first part of my conversation with Serena Palmer—writer, speaker, and author of My Two Brains and Me—we explore her journey through ADHD, addiction, and the shame that nearly silenced her. • How early patterns of shame and self-criticism fueled addiction
    • What it means to live with “two brains”—the rational self and the addict brain

This is part one of a two-part series. In part two, Serena shares her recovery journey, the turning point that saved her life, and the role of gratitude and spirituality in staying sober.
