Episode 26 of Traumatically Speaking, Slave 4 Britney: Queer Awakenings & Coming Out Stories, is dedicated to every person who looked back at their childhood and thought, "...how did I not know?"
This week, Lex and Sloan share their own coming out stories alongside one from a Chaos Cousin whose first crush wasn't the boy band everyone else was obsessed with—it was Britney Spears. What started as a childhood celebrity obsession turned into a queer awakening years before she had the language to understand it, and like so many of us, it took years before she finally came out.
Lex shares her own coming out story, reflecting on what it was like to embrace her identity and navigate the reactions of the people around her.
Then Sloan opens up about a different kind of coming out. She shares what it was like to tell the people in her life that she's polyamorous, the misconceptions that came with it, and why coming out isn't always about your sexuality, sometimes it's about finally living authentically, even when other people don't understand.
Together, they talk about the pressure to fit into boxes, the fear of disappointing the people we love, and the freedom that comes from finally choosing yourself instead of performing a version of yourself that makes everyone else comfortable.
It's funny. It's vulnerable. It's validating.
And if Britney Spears was your first crush... this might explain a few things.
