In an individualist society, instant gratification, independence, and distractions can affect believers priorities, particularly when it comes to the importance of gathering as a church family on Sunday. • Ep. 26 - The Sensuous Christian Pt. 2 - Emotional Legalism
    2026/08/13

In Episode 25 Pastor Daron and Daniel break down the R.C. Sproul document "The Sensuous Christian", and in this episode, the conversation continues, this time with an emphasis on "Emotional Legalism". The term "Emotional Legalism" comes from Pastor Jerry Wragg and Pastor Paul Shirley's book, "Free to Be Holy".

Emotional Legalism is a legalism that binds your conscience and your life to a new set of laws governed by your emotions instead of by biblical truth and conviction. It tends to govern your sense of right and wrong and your own spirituality based on how you feel about it instead of what the Scriptures say, and how the Spirit of God moves and works in the inner life of a person through the Word of God united with faith in the believer.

Join Pastor Daron and Daniel as they break down this thought process and talk through implementing the tools in Scripture that God has given us, coupled with moment by moment conviction lived out over time.

  • Ep. 25 - The Sensuous Christian
    2026/08/06

In this episode of Shepherds Talk, Pastor Daron and Daniel talk through the article "The Sensuous Christian" by R.C. Sproul. The outworking of living by our senses in the various areas of our lives often leads us into disobedience to the Scriptures. Our senses and feelings don't always add up with truth, and they don't lead us into truth. truth must drive our feelings and inform what we are sensing.

Our senses often lead us astray. the Proverbs tell us there is a way that seems right but the end of that way is death (Prov. 14:12)

In parenting, marriage, work life, and church life, this is an all to common area of danger. If we follow our heart and how we feel and what seems right to us, we will end up in false worship and our authority becomes our feelings instead of the Scriptures.

Alistair Begg says it right in his well known message on this topic when he says "Don't ask me what I feel about myself, ask me what I know about God!"

  • Ep. 24 - Living Life under the Providence of God Pt. 2
    2026/07/30

When the unfolding of God's providence comes against our desires, even our good desires, our tendency is to idolize those desires. Idolatry of the heart is when you are willing to sin to get something. Even if that thing is a good desire.

So how should Christians walk by faith in a God whose providence often brings trials into our lives to expose our desires for what they are? What questions should you be asking under trial? What are the biblical examples of those who did well in this area, and what were their struggles?

Join Pastor Daron and Daniel as they talk through the practical realities of day by day, moment by moment, walking by faith in our Christian lives. May we have upright motivations, by faith submitting to a God whose glory is our good even in the trials.

  • Ep. 23 - Living Life Under the Providence of God Pt. 1
    2026/07/23

When we are experiencing a difficult providence, we can tend to struggle with the circumstances that the Lord has us in. Our God is not absent even in our worst circumstances, and he is working all things together for our good if we truly love Him, but we can tend to struggle in our response to God's providence.

The remedy to our struggles is not better circumstances, but that we walk by faith in pursuit of the Lord wherever we find ourselves. We need to get altitude by asking ourselves "what is God doing in this?" In our home lives and in our work lives and in the church we need God's perspective in our current circumstances.

  • Ep. 22 - Digital Discernment and Your Local Church
    2026/07/16

In an age where reels and shorts put teaching and preaching and podcasts in your path constantly, biblical filters are critical to safeguard your soul from being subtly influenced by imprecise teaching. The goal is not skepticism, but real discernment to discern what is clear and true from what seems true. The Bereans did this well while still hungering to receive the Word.

This podcast is for Cornerstone Bible Church, and if you are at Cornerstone, God has placed you in a local context with shepherds who are known and have character that is known. The local church is your primary source of spiritual health and teaching and instruction. everything else is supplemental.

Not until the recent rise of the digital age did online teachers from all over the world find a place to present themselves to you instantly, ready to influence you as you scroll. We would never let someone wander into the church on a Sunday morning and begin teaching everyone without careful thought and a planned invitation, but we invite that into our lives as we scroll without really even thinking twice about it.

In this episode of Shepherds talk, Pastor Daron shares his heart and our convictions that come from passages of Scripture about the role of a local church in the life of a believer, and the men you should be primarily looking towards to feed you God's Word.
