Why do some hear the Word of God and believe, while others hear the same Word and reject it? In this sermon, we consider the danger of a hardened heart through Israel’s rejection of Christ and the example of Pharaoh. Persistent resistance to God’s Word is not spiritually neutral; the heart can become increasingly hardened against the very Word given to save us. Yet Christ continues to come to sinners in mercy, calling us to repentance and faith and giving us His righteousness as a gift rather than something we establish for ourselves.
