The SEEK Safely podcast is the official voice of the nonprofit organization SEEK Safely Inc, which advocates for ethics and accountability in the self-help industry, and empowers seekers to have safe and effective self-improvement journeys. Jean Brown and Dr. Glenn Patrick Doyle peel back the layers of the largely unregulated, multi-billion dollar self-help industry, discussing the patterns of exploitation and deception that pervade the industry and allow self-help gurus to thrive at the expense of their customers and followers. Along the way we’ll have discussions with people who care as much as we do about the self-help industry being held accountable for the promises it makes–and we lay out our vision of a world in which seekers are respected and protected.© 2026 Seek Safely アート 社会科学

  • AI Really Wants to Get into Self-help, but it’s as Terrible as We May Expect
    2026/07/06

We’ll give it to Tony Robbins–he’s trying really hard to stay relevant in a rapidly changing self-help environment. Most recently, he’s joined in with a bunch of tech bros to build a therapizing, AI guru. What could go wrong?!

Glenn and Jean chat about this latest development in the saga of AI and self-help, raising some important questions about what’s happening. The merging of two un- or at least underregulated industries, both of which are hard-selling consumers by promising them what they want to hear but not proceeding with much if any integrity, feels like a potentially dangerous direction to head in. But, what do we know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Visionary or Delusional? What Submersibles, Fake Blood Tests, and Self-help Share
    2026/05/26

Jean and Glenn revisit some recent examples of supposedly visionary individuals whose grand plans led to disaster. It’s a sort of wishful thinking, fake-it-till-you-make-it, “manifest it” mindset that is not only a hallmark of modern self-help, but also seems to be pervasive in modern culture. What are the implications of this type of thinking, especially as we train LLMs and AIs from the content output of this culture?

Also… Join us on May 30th for the SEEK Safely Summit! We’ll be talking about solutions for building a better self-help world.
