  • PREVIEW: Weekend Preview: MLS Decision Day! (with Adam Susman)
    2025/10/17

Darren Smith and John Gennaro kick off the show by talking about Dennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal's article in The Athletic, which lays out a changing dynamic in the front office of the San Diego Padres, and wonder what will happen with A.J. Preller's contract situation this offseason.

The guys then welcome Adam Susman, who covers the Portland Timbers, onto the show to talk about the season the Timbers have had and what they'll be looking to accomplish at home against San Diego FC on MLS Decision Day.

Finally, the guys talk about Apple TV buying the broadcast rights to Formula 1 racist and compare it to the deal MLS has with Apple before ending with a mental health-focused version of Try This!

  • PREVIEW: Formula 1 comes to America (with Sean Kelly)
    2025/10/16

There's no new news on the Padres front today, and the guys are against making stuff up, so they talk for a few minutes about the next shoe to drop (aka Preller Watch) before putting the subject to bed to focus on today's guest:

Darren Smith and John Gennaro haven't talked to F1 chief statistician Sean Kelly since the beginning of the Formula 1 season, so they chatted with him for a while ahead of this weekend's United States Grand Prix to get a feel for how the season is going and who are the favorites to be finish the season at the top of the standings.

  • PREVIEW: Mike Shildt gets buried by anonymous sources
    2025/10/15

Kevin Acee wrote a story with dozens of anonymous sources last night that detailed Mike Shildt's poor relationship with some of the San Diego Padres coaching staff and members of the front office, showing a penchant for snapping at people who dared question him.

Darren Smith and John Gennaro go through the story and ask some questions about the journalism, the organization and the future of the franchise.

But now the guys are back, and they're ready to talk about A.J. Preller's press conference (over Zoom) following Mike Shildt's sudden retirement yesterday.

  • Quick Padres thoughts while waiting for Preller
    2025/10/14

Darren Smith and John Gennaro had to put out some quick thoughts this morning on Mike Shildt's sudden retirement from the San Diego Padres. They mostly responded to the article that Dennis Lin put out at The Athletic, where he talked to Shildt and got deeper into the burnout reasoning, and some of the real life issues that Shildt was dealing with.

The guys will be back later on this afternoon to react to A.J. Preller's press conference and (probably) talk about some other stuff, too.

  • REACTION: Mike Shildt retires as Padres manager
    2025/10/13

Darren Smith and John Gennaro did a livestream on X and YouTube after the news broke that (former) Padres manager Mike Shildt was retiring, leading to yet another manager search for A.J. Preller.

The guys discuss what Shildt did well with the Padres, the rumors of him clashing with A.J. Preller, and some of the potential candidates that could come in to replace Shildt in the Padres dugout.

Also, at the end, the guys spend about ten minutes talking about Saturday's SDSU win over Nevada because it felt important for the Aztecs football program and because they already spent an hour and a half talking about Mike Shildt and the Padres.

  • PREVIEW: Weekend Preview: Is SDSU actually good?
    2025/10/10

Darren Smith took the red eye home from Hawaii and is very tired for today's podcast where he, along with John Gennaro, preview the upcoming weekend.

The guys start by talking about the end of the Dodgers/Phillies game/series and all of the human elements that went into such a catastrophic sports moment before wondering if parity has watered down the NFL too much.

It's set to be a great slate of game for college football on Saturday, and it might be time to start paying extra attention to the 4-1 San Diego State Aztecs football team.

John gives an update on the WNBA Finals, Darren talks a bit about the U-20 World Cup, and the guys give their recommendations in another round of Try This!
