Fear will pop up without an invitation. It just shows up and starts making demands. And feeling just scared in the midst of all that is completely normal and human. But having courage? Courage is the moment you decide that fear doesn't get to drive the car.
God never promised we wouldn't feel fear. He just promised that fear doesn't have to rule our decisions. Every time we feel those hairs stand up on the back of our necks but choose to step forward anyway, we're walking in biblical courage.
Physical and tactical preparation creates a foundation of confidence that fear has a harder time shaking. But we shouldn't stop there. Let's not forget to prepare spiritually too. We can and should invite God into every conversation, every checkpoint, every split-second decision that we have to make. He's not just interested in the big dramatic moments. He cares about the small interactions that set the tone for someone's entire experience of us as Christians, of carrying the name of our Savior.
We don't know what personal battles our teammates are fighting outside of the church walls or outside of the job. The person standing right next to us might be holding it together by a thread, and our words of encouragement could be exactly what they need to keep going.
