I wanted more than surface-level commentary, so I picked up the phone and called someone I trust to get the facts straight.

Retired Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger joins me to walk through what is actually happening with DHS appropriations, delayed pay, and the difference between uniformed Coast Guard members and the civilian workforce that supports critical missions. We talk about what counts as “essential,” what work slows down, and why “back pay later” does not solve the immediate problem of bills due today.
