The most recent epidemiological data from different countries suggest a rising incidence and incidence-based mortality of thyroid cancers, which claims for discussion with key opinion leaders to understand the causes of such increase and the possible impact of such findings in different countries, avoiding overlooking potentially fatal neoplasms, but also avoiding expensive overdiagnoses. Cost- effective diagnostic and screening strategies, as well as personalized medicine is highly desirable, especially for physicians working in developing/emerging countries.
