📖 Looking Back at Jesus’ Love

    John 13:31–35 — A New Commandment

    📅 May 15–18, 2025

    🕊️ Pastor Kyle Backhaus

“Life can only be understood backwards but must be lived forwards.” – Søren Kierkegaard

As we look back at the life of Jesus, especially at His final days with His disciples, we begin to understand the depth of His love. Imagine Him—on His knees, washing the feet of Judas, the very one who would betray Him. That is love.

Jesus gives us a new commandment: to love one another just as He has loved us. That means loving without expectation, loving with vulnerability, and loving those who are different from us. It’s a radical love that transforms hearts and communities.

🧼 3 Ways to Love Like Jesus Loved:

Love without expectation – His love had no strings attached.

Be vulnerable – True love risks being wounded.

Love those not like us – Just as Jesus loved the unseen and the outcast, so should we.

Come hear this powerful reminder that in Jesus’ command, we are both challenged and comforted: His love calls us to action, even as it holds us with mercy.

  • Sermon: Get a Grip… Rest in His Grip ✝ John 10:22–30
    2025/05/12

📖 Get a Grip… Rest in His Grip

    ✝ John 10:22–30

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sheboygan Falls, WI

We’ve all heard it: “Get a grip!” In moments of stress, pain, or deep loss, well-meaning words can sometimes make us feel even more alone—like we’re left to carry the burden ourselves. But today, Jesus speaks a better word. He doesn’t tell you to "figure it out" or "pull yourself together." Instead, your Good Shepherd invites you to rest… in His grip.

Jesus says: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them... no one will snatch them out of My hand.” (John 10:27–28)

You are not alone. You are not forgotten. You are not on your own.

In the hands of Christ—crucified and risen—you are secure, known, and loved.

    🧠 Key Takeaways

We live in a “Get a Grip” culture—but that’s not where our help comes from.

Jesus doesn’t tell us to get a grip. He holds us in His grip.

No one—nothing—can snatch you from the hand of your Good Shepherd.

Real rest and real peace come from the One who knows you by name.

🙏 Join us in worship and find comfort in the Shepherd who knows your every need.

  • Sermon: Jesus and Peter: Restored | John 21:1–14
    2025/05/05

🔥 Jesus and Peter: Restored | John 21:1–14

📅 Join us live from St. Paul Lutheran Church – where restoration meets grace.

    Around one fire, Peter denied.

    Around another, Jesus restores.

After a long night of empty nets and frustration, the risen Christ meets His disciples not with condemnation, but with a smile, a joke, and breakfast on the beach. In John 21, we witness not only the power of resurrection but the warmth of friendship, laughter, and mercy.

Jesus doesn’t just appear—He steps into the weariness, the shame, and the silence, and speaks with humor and hope. And when Peter sees Him, he dives headfirst into the water. Why? Because grace was waiting on the shore.

This Sunday, gather with us as we explore what it means to be fully known, fully loved, and fully restored in Christ. Just like Peter, we are invited to lay down our denials and take up a new life—one marked by mercy, affirmation, and purpose.

    📖 Key Texts:

    John 21:1–14

    Hebrews 4:16

    🎯 Key Takeaways:

Jesus meets us where we are—tired, worn out, and searching.

Even in our failures, Christ calls us by name.

Restoration begins not with perfection, but with love.

Laughter and friendship are not separate from faith—they’re signs of it.
