Race 3 of 3 on the day. Finished in a surprising 2nd place. Not sure how my body held up and how i didnt get smoke by the younger kids. My plan was to get wooden choo choo train award. They give those out to top 3 and 1st master. So was strategically planning the race. Figured i was actually going to be 5th or 6th at most. Which ment Id be fighting more for masters then a top 3. I stayed back as i did previous race and let the young ones go. I passed them up pretty quickly. My buddy who won was out in front the whole time with ease. his lead grew with each step. Anyway i after a couple tenths no more then a half mile. I was in 3rd, somehow not totally sure how. From there was planning to draft as long as I could. Gradually I overtook 2nd without trying. That was somewhere in the 1-1.5 mile range. Went with it. Id take 2nd as long as I could hold it. As hit rail trail I splashed water on me and took one gulp. The rail trail was rough. Well rough for 2 reasons. was little soft and muddy because of rain earlier in day. But it also beat me up. The whole time on it I wanted to give up and for race to be over. The race is half road and half rail trail. The farther we went the more tired and slower I got. From leg fatigue and going around soft spots on trail. Was waiting for someone to overtake me so I could drop back. No one did. Not sure how close anyone was as i was running. I looked back at 2ish miles before hitting rail trail to see i had good 20-30 seconds. Then only looked back couple tenths from finish. Saw no one behind me so I was able to relax coming into the finish line. Mission accomplished on the wooden train and a top 3 again not sure how.
