What happens when a teenager is suddenly confronted with the possibility of losing her best friend? In Part One of this conversation, Amanda and Erin welcome Kaylee, one of MacKenzie's closest childhood friends, to share what she remembers about the accident that changed all of their lives. Kaylee reflects on seeing MacKenzie in the hospital, feeling helpless at just 16 years old, and realizing for the first time that the adults she depended on were frightened and vulnerable, too.

Together, they explore the complicated emotions young people experience during a medical crisis; including uncertainty about how to help, how to grieve, and whether they belong in the room. Amanda also looks back on the pressure she felt to accommodate visitors while her daughter was fighting for her life. It's an honest conversation about friendship, trauma, boundaries, and the moment childhood suddenly gives way to something far more complicated.
