For the first Arts Alive! podcast of 2026, four guests join St. Pete Catalyst's Bill DeYoung. That’s a record – and since they couldn’t all be in the studio at the same time (not enough microphones!), we conducted the interview via Zoom. They are dancers and choreographers with projectALCHEMY, the St. Petersburg-based nonprofit dance incubator and studio. Samantha Kedziora, Talia Demps, Esophia Higgins-Wilkins and Kirsten Standridge will be part of MIXED: Across St. Pete, a series of pop-up dance performances in public areas around the city Jan. 4-9.
The seven neighborhoods on the visit list are Roser Park, Historic Kenwood, Maximo Park, Downtown, Edgemoor, Historic Old Northeast and The Deuces Corridor. Taking dance off the stage and out of the theater is one particular passion of company founder Alexander Jones – he calls it “the power of movement to illuminate the spaces we call home.” To keep the experience organic, company members won’t reveal any specific dates or times. If you're there, you're there.
Each of the women discuss their feelings about dance “in the wild,” about the Mixed work they’ve developed (for themselves and other company dancers), and about Jones himself, as teacher, mentor – and friend.

MIXed: Across St. Pete The project concludes with a ticketed closing event at The Studio@620, where the company will create a brand-new, in-the-moment improvisational work that reflects on the dance experiences that unfolded across the city throughout the week. This performance is not a repeat of the neighborhood pieces—it is a reimagining and expansion of the stories, landscapes, and movement research discovered in those spaces, interwoven with short dance films and live music by Darren McFarland. MIXed: Across St. Pete honors the beauty of St. Petersburg’s neighborhoods, the importance of accessible dance experiences, and the power of movement to illuminate the spaces we call home.
January 4–9: Citywide
