概要

Genesis 15:17-18

In today's church, false doctrines like replacement theology and supersessionism are creating dangerous confusion about God's relationship with Israel. These teachings claim that the Church has replaced or superseded Israel in God's redemptive plan, effectively canceling God's covenant promises to His chosen people. Such doctrines create pride in the church, distort Scripture's plain meaning, and weaken biblical hope concerning prophecy and God's future faithfulness.

The foundation of God's relationship with Israel rests in the Abrahamic covenant found in Genesis 15. Unlike typical ancient covenants where both parties would walk between sacrificed animals, Abraham was in deep sleep while God alone passed between the pieces as fire and smoke. This demonstrates that the covenant is unilateral, resting entirely on God's character rather than human performance. God essentially bound Himself to bear the covenant curse if it was broken, making this a promise covenant rather than a law covenant.

Both Old and New Testament Scriptures confirm God's unwavering commitment to Israel. Passages like Deuteronomy 4:31, Leviticus 26:44-45, and Jeremiah 31:35-37 declare that God will never forsake or completely destroy Israel. The New Testament reinforces these promises in Romans 11:28-29, stating that God's gifts and calling are irrevocable. This doesn't provide automatic salvation for all Jews, as personal faith in Christ remains necessary. However, it demonstrates that God's faithfulness to His covenant promises with Israel serves as the same foundation for our confidence in His promises to believers today.
