You've said the words "I forgive them." You could tell the story without crying. And yet — your jaw still tightens when their name comes up. Your stomach still drops when you hear their voice.
That gap, between what your mind has decided and what your body is still doing, is what this episode is about. Forgiveness isn't just a mental decision — it's a nervous system event. And when we only work on it from the neck up, we can end up "forgiving" someone for years without ever actually feeling different in their presence.
In this episode, I'm breaking down what's actually happening in the body when we're holding onto something, and what it really takes to let it go.
In this episode:
- Why a grudge isn't just a story you tell yourself — it's a stored activation pattern in the body, and why your body can "reactivate" old hurt even when your mind has moved on
- Why anger and resentment aren't obstacles to forgiveness — they're a form of protection, and what to ask your body instead of "why can't I just let this go"
- Why forgiveness works more like a practice than a single moment, and why old anger resurfacing isn't backsliding
- What it might actually feel like when forgiveness starts to land — and why it's usually quieter than we expect
Reflection:
Maybe the real marker of forgiveness isn't some dramatic moment where it's suddenly all okay. Maybe it's smaller than that — one day, their name comes up, and your shoulders don't rise quite as fast as they used to.
