概要

DAVID BOWIE FINAL ACT: Reviewed!

Welcome back to the shownotes, shownotes fans! Are you ready to hear us discussing yet another biographical documentary? Another musical biographical documentary, no less! Of course you are! Mister Christopher is wearing his big boy pants this week and telling Mister Jeffrey exactly who is pitching the thirty second game and Jeffrey is in awe of these levels of confidence and self belief and he believes in his friend so he’s like “yeah ok man”. I know it’s missing that crucial CCCAH ingredient we love so much, an essential part of any CCCAH stew is … the boys trying to think back to the last episode and recall what they were reviewing and who pitched a thirty second game! But hey … don’t worry, I don’t think we’ve ditched that forever.

But hey, let’s enjoy this week for what it is! We’re still happy new year-ing (Christopher grimacing every time I say or type those words at this point hahaha) up a storm for our last January episode of 2026.

So, rambling introductions aside (we like those around here, can’t you tell) this episode is all about a new David Bowie documentary. I think we agree on how to pronounce Boiwe, so that’s good. But what isn’t good is how scant our knowledge is of the Starman’s discography. But then again, does this allow for a bit more enjoyment and novelty for us when watching this documentary, as opposed to when we watched It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley last week with such geeky knowledge of Jeff Buckley informing our view of every talking head’s anecdote and musical choice of the director. We shall see. In this episode. Will we come out of it bigger Bowie fans? More Bowie-curious? Will one of us decide to do a reverse-chronological Bowie-deep-dive while the other feels ready to at least give a few more songs, if not an album at some point (shout out Black Star, always) a try? We shall see. Will we ever review albums on this podcast again? Oh boy, on that one … we really *will* see soon. Hopefully. Six seasons and a patreon, six seasons and patreon. We can’t give everything away.

You can watch David Bowie Final Act here. Channel 4 baby. We love you so much: https://www.channel4.com/programmes/bowie-the-final-act

Lets read Lazarus by as it covers the same ground as the film and is apparently very good: https://www.simonandschuster.co.uk/books/Lazarus-The-Second-Coming-of-David-Bowie/Alexander-Larman/9781917923446

Let’s watch the Jeremy Paxman interview in full, as I did right before we recorded! As Goldie said, it might be one of his best ever interviews. And yes, Bowie did so many interviews over the years that might be just as high praise as calling one of his albums his best ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiK7s_0tGsg

You can read an interview with the director of the film Jonathan Stiasny on the Independent here: https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/david-bowie-final-act-documentary-blackstar-b2893850.html

You can watch the performance of Life On Mars at Glastonbury 2000 that the film highlights here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJB24LVx6fw

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: The bit where Christopher was like “wait do we keep calling it Starman … I think the song is actually called Life On Mars”. Lol good catch.
