Deep beneath the border of France and Switzerland sits the Large Hadron Collider — the largest and most powerful particle accelerator ever constructed. Operated by CERN, it was built to help scientists answer some of the biggest questions about matter, particles, and the universe itself.
But according to some conspiracy theorists, CERN may have discovered something else entirely.
For years, theories have circulated claiming that experiments at the Large Hadron Collider could create microscopic black holes, open portals into other dimensions, alter timelines, or even explain the strange phenomenon known as the Mandela Effect.
Then there are the things that have only added fuel to the fire: claims of occult symbolism, experiments involving the so-called "God Particle," and the unsettling question of what might happen when humanity begins experimenting with forces we don't completely understand.
Tonight on Carpe Noctem, Adie takes us down one of the strangest rabbit holes in modern conspiracy culture.
What is CERN actually doing?
Could the Large Hadron Collider really create a black hole?
Where did the stories about portals and alternate dimensions come from?
And what on Earth does any of this have to do with people remembering the Berenstain Bears differently?
We'll separate the science from the speculation, trace the origins of the conspiracy theories, and ask the question at the center of it all:
Is CERN simply helping us understand reality...
...or did somebody accidentally mess with it?
