Welcome to today’s Bible study.
In this episode of Ruth 1 (KJV), we begin our verse-by-verse journey through the book of Ruth as a story of loss, faithfulness, and God's providence begins to unfold. This chapter highlights loyalty, trust in God during hardship, and the hope that remains even in seasons of sorrow.
The chapter begins with a famine in Israel that leads Elimelech, Naomi, and their family to settle in Moab. After the deaths of Elimelech and Naomi's two sons, Naomi is left grieving with her daughters in law, Orpah and Ruth.
When Naomi decides to return to Bethlehem after hearing that the Lord has provided food for His people, Orpah returns to her family, but Ruth remains faithful to Naomi. Ruth makes her well known declaration that Naomi's people will be her people and Naomi's God will be her God.
The chapter concludes with Naomi and Ruth arriving in Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest, setting the stage for God's unfolding plan of redemption through His faithful provision.
Through this chapter, we see key lessons about faithfulness, loyalty, trusting God during suffering, and His providence even when His purposes are not yet visible.
Together, we will study this chapter verse by verse, exploring its historical context, theological depth, and spiritual lessons about God's faithfulness, covenant love, hope, and redemption.
