In this episode of Dr. Angie Speaks, Dr. Angie welcomes Angela Wilkes — a newly retired corporate professional stepping into what she calls "rewirement." Angela traces her story from childhood in Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Harlem to the culture shock and early experiences with racism she faced in Staten Island, then into a fast-paced corporate career spanning the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Goldman Sachs, McKesson, and 14+ years at AT&T.
She speaks candidly about infertility, the loss of a set of triplets during IVF, and the grief and faith journey that followed — before welcoming her "miracle baby" at age 40. Angela shares how that experience shaped her life's mission around community outreach, mentorship, and supporting women who struggle silently with infertility, especially in the Black community.
Now retired, Angela is the founder of the Georgia chapter of American Mothers Inc., a 2024 Georgia Mother of the Year honoree, and is working on two upcoming books — one addressing infertility and stigma, and one honoring her late mother through a shared poetry collection. She also opens up about sustaining a 34-year marriage, navigating a blended family with 5 children and 14 grandchildren, and what it really means to compromise.
