  • THE LOST BOYS (1987): MTV Vampires, Sexy Saxman & An Iconic Soundtrack
    2026/04/14

It's 1987 - Rick Astley is never gonna give you up, MTV just launched and a gang of very cool, very dangerous vampires are running Santa Carla. GB and AJ rewind Joel Schumacher's cult classic The Lost Boys: how it reinvented the vampire genre for the MTV generation, why the soundtrack might be bigger than the movie itself, and whether style trumps substance.

And why does it feel like 2 different movies, with the final act coming across like a Goonies sequel? And was it anything to do with Goonies director Dick Donner being the original director?!?

Oh, and AJ gets absolutely roasted in the comments section, Patreons deliver some passionate and contradcitory verdicts.

Next week: Inspired by the amazing soundtrack, we look at our Favorite Movie Soundtracks of all time!

  • DISNEY'S BLACK HOLE (1979): Walt's Darkest Movie & An Unhinged Ending!
    2026/03/31

You probably haven't seen it. You may never have heard of it.

But Disney's The Black Hole (1979) is one of the most ambitious - and bizarre - films the studio ever made.

It cost $20 million, earned two Oscar nominations, and then almost completely vanished.

This week, GB and AJ dust it off and find a film that's darker, weirder, and more fascinating than it has any right to be, complete with a bonkers ending, a murderous robot, and one scene AJ has apparently never forgotten since childhood.

⚠️ TW: CA (Brief mention for less than 20 seconds between minute 21 and 22).

Next week: Inspired by VINCENT from The Black Hole, we look at our favorite movie robots of all time!

    2026/03/24

We’re breaking down the best, worst, and most bizarre appearances by musicians on the big screen.

Following on from our Labyrinth episode, we explore how artists like David Bowie, Cher, and Frank Sinatra successfully made the leap into acting while others (ahem Madonna et al) maybe should’ve stayed in the recording studio.

  • LABYRINTH (1986): Age Gaps, Bowie's Balls and His Little Worm
    2026/03/17

This week on Rewind Classic Movies, we’re exploring Labyrinth (1986) - Jim Henson’s wildly imaginative fantasy starring David Bowie as the unforgettable Goblin King.

    On this episode we discuss:

    • Weird age gaps and questionable fantasies
    • David Bowie’s iconic performance (and yes… those tights)
    • The extraordinary practical effects and puppetry from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop
    • How the film blends fantasy, comedy and coming-of-age themes
    • Why Labyrinth struggled at the box office but became a beloved cult classic
    • Our favourite scenes, quotes and moments from the maze

Nearly 40 years later, Labyrinth still feels like pure movie magic - a fantasy world built by hand, packed with unforgettable creatures and Bowie’s unmistakable musical energy.

But does it still hold up today?

Join us as we rewind Labyrinth.

  • THE TOM CRUISE ERAS TOUR: Breakout, Stunts, Boring?
    2026/03/10

After revisiting Mission: Impossible 2 on the Rewind show, we Fast Forward to take you on the Tom Cruise Eras Tour.

From his breakout in the early 80s to becoming one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, Cruise’s career spans more than four decades, nearly 50 films, and $15 billion at the box office.

In this episode we break down the six eras of Tom Cruise - from the rebellious young actor of Risky Business and The Outsiders, to the global superstardom of Top Gun, Rain Man, and A Few Good Men, all the way through to the stunt-driven spectacle of the Mission: Impossible franchise and the cinematic comeback of Top Gun: Maverick.

    Along the way we discuss:

    • Cruise’s difficult upbringing and early rise in Hollywood

    • The incredible run of films between 1986 and 1992

    • His collaborations with directors like Scorsese, Kubrick and Spielberg

    • The strange sci-fi era (Vanilla Sky, Minority Report, War of the Worlds)

    • Why Tropic Thunder might be his most entertaining role

    • Whether Mission: Impossible has become more about stunts than story

    • And which Tom Cruise film we want to watch again

Plus we look ahead to Cruise’s upcoming projects and ask whether he’s now become the last true movie star still fighting for the theatrical experience.
