In this episode of New York’s Finest: Retired & Unfiltered, we sit down with Retired NYPD First Grade Detective Mike Mulroy for a raw, behind-the-scenes look at a career spent in one of the toughest police departments in the world.
Mulroy takes us through the realities of detective work in New York City — from everyday cases to life-or-death encounters — and what it means to carry the job long after retirement.
Who is Mike Mulroy? (Bio)
Mike Mulroy is a retired NYPD First Grade Detective who investigated over 1,000 cases, ranging from petit larceny to homicide, during his career in New York City.
In May 1994, he was awarded the NYPD Medal of Valor after an armed suspect opened fire on him. Mulroy returned fire, stopping the threat, and the suspect was immediately apprehended — a defining moment that reflects his courage and composure under extreme pressure.
After retiring from the NYPD in 2010, Mulroy transitioned into the private sector, working with Brosnan Risk Consultants, where he provided armed and unarmed security for banks, commercial, and residential properties, while also conducting employee background investigations for numerous companies.
Today, he shares his experience and insight into policing, investigations, and security.
