What Then Say You?

Success can feel like a spiritual word, but most of us define it with a secular scoreboard: money, titles, comfort, influence, and visible wins. We sit with the tension that happens when that definition slips into Christian life, shaping how we judge ourselves, raise our kids, and even evaluate churches. When faith becomes a path to “the good life,” it’s easy to start co-signing God onto whatever we’re chasing and calling it blessing, favor, or prosperity.

We walk straight into that misconception and pull it apart with Scripture. Joshua 1 is a pivotal anchor, one of the few places the Bible directly connects “success” to a clear condition: obedience to God’s Word, meditation on it, and courage rooted in God’s presence. That pushes us to ask hard questions about motive and source. Are we chasing outcomes that feed the flesh and labeling them spiritual? Are we measuring the Christian walk by numbers and applause, or by faithfulness, repentance, and love for God and neighbor?
