概要
Spencer and Cameron are jumping into the latest Resident Evil game, with Requiem, the 9th in the main series and really the first game since six (dis-including the remakes) that feels like a proper Resident Evil story. 7 and 8 were fun games in their spin off sort of way but just never felt like proper RE titles. More like they should have been their own games, like other Capcom titles that took the Resident Evil format and ran with it. Onimusha, Dino Crisis, and Devil May Cry to name a few. But whatever, here we are at 9 and boy what an experience it is.
There's a parallel story line going on where you play as Grace Ashcroft who is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft (from Outbreak on PS2 for those that remember) and Leon Kennedy. A now grizzled hero from previous RE games including 2, 4, 6, and Gaiden. The cool thing is that each character has a different play style. Grace is more in the traditional survival gameplay style of limited inventory, less weapons, puzzle solving, and hiding from the big boss stalker enemies. While Leon on the other hand has seen it all and is prepared for whatever comes next, so he's locked and loaded, and ready to lay the smackdown on anything that gets in his way. Which ends up making pretty much the Resident Evil Greatest hits of gameplay from the past 30 years.
This story has the feeling of being like Leon's next chapter after RE2. Similar to how Claire Redfield had this with Code Veronica. Leon is teamed up with Sherry Birkin on the radio (who knows what happened to Hunnigan) and is on the search for the T-Virus cure that they are both infected with. And somehow, Grace is the key to all this as left in the final messages of Oswell E. Spencer.
Fantastic job they did on the baddies and the zombies are probably the most well-done versions in any game out there. Goes to show there is always a way to add some new dimension to an old formula. With new game plus extras and hopefully some DLC coming soon to answer some more questions like, who really is Zeno? What does Chris Redfield and BSAA have going on? And did Hunk make it out alive? All this and more will be pondered on.
So, come join us for the run through retrospective discussion, as we deep dive into the lore, gameplay mechanics, and give a retro review on our modern experience. Let us know your thoughts on the game, survival horror titles, and what we should play next.
