Of all the things Scripture could say about Moses: lawgiver, prophet, the man who split the sea, the book of Exodus pauses to record something quieter: "The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend." Not master and servant. Not king and subject. Friend. And the Hebrew word is not some elevated religious term, it's the ordinary word for a neighbor, the person you eat with, the person you can be honest with. In this final reflection, we discover that the goal of the whole journey is both deeper and more ordinary than we expected: not becoming impressive, but becoming close.
