After six days and nights of unwavering vigilance, Maricha and Subahu attack. Rama drives Maricha far into the sea without killing him, defeats Subahu, and ensures that Vishvamitra’s sacrifice is completed successfully.

In this episode of Ramayan – The Eternal Journey, Vishvamitra entrusts Rama with a vast collection of divine astras—celestial weapons of immense power.

One by one, the astras come before Rama, ready to serve at his command. Rama receives them with discipline and reverence, and then asks for something equally important: the knowledge of how to withdraw and recall them.

Vishvamitra teaches him the samhara—the methods by which these divine powers may be restrained and called back. By the end of this sacred instruction, Rama carries not only the power of the astras, but also the knowledge required to control them.

Vishvamitra arrives in Ayodhya with an extraordinary request: King Dasharatha must entrust young Rama to him so the prince can protect his sacred rite from Maricha and Subahu.

Dasharatha is shaken by the request and struggles to part with his beloved son. As the king's fear deepens and Ravana's shadow enters the conversation, Vishvamitra's anger rises—until Sage Vasishtha intervenes and reminds Dasharatha of dharma, his promise, and the protection Rama will receive.

At last, Rama and Lakshmana leave Ayodhya with Vishvamitra. Their first journey brings them to the banks of the Sarayu, where Rama receives the sacred knowledge of Bala and Atibala.

As the gods seek relief from Ravana’s growing power, Vishnu makes a divine promise that will change the course of the world. In Ayodhya, that promise begins to take form with the birth of King Dasharatha’s four sons—Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana, and Shatrughna.

In this episode of Ramayan – The Eternal Journey, we follow the divine preparations surrounding their arrival and the beginning of a new chapter in Ayodhya.

King Dasharatha begins the great Ashwamedha Yagya under the guidance of Rishyashringa and Vasishtha. Ayodhya prepares for the vast royal ceremony as kings, priests, artisans, and guests gather, and the prescribed Vedic rituals are performed with great care.

With the Ashwamedha successfully completed, Dasharatha turns once again to his deepest wish—the continuation of his lineage. Rishyashringa then gives him the long-awaited assurance: four sons will be born to him.

King Dasharatha has everything a great ruler could possess—wealth, power, ministers, priests, and the magnificent city of Ayodhya. Yet one concern weighs heavily on him: he has no son to continue the Ikshvaku lineage.

As Dasharatha considers performing the Ashvamedha sacrifice, his minister Sumantra recalls an ancient prediction connected with the young ascetic Rishyashringa. The journey takes us from Ayodhya to the forests, to the drought-stricken kingdom of Anga, where Rishyashringa’s arrival brings rain and where he is united with Shanta.

The episode then returns to Dasharatha’s search for an heir. With Vasishtha’s approval, the king travels to Anga, and Rishyashringa and Shanta are eventually welcomed into Ayodhya—setting the stage for the great royal sacrifice to come.
