  • What It Really Means to See Your Daughter
    2026/09/01

Welcome back to Raising Confident Girls. In this episode, Melissa Jones explores what it really means for your daughter to feel seen. Drawing on her own childhood experiences and nearly three decades of working with girls, Melissa shares why noticing your daughter doesn't mean assuming you know what's happening inside her. Instead, she encourages parents to pay attention, make space for their daughters to define their own experiences, and notice the strengths and qualities they may not yet see in themselves.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • Why noticing a change in your daughter's behavior isn't the same as knowing what it means
    • How parents can notice when something feels different without immediately assuming something is wrong
    • Why sitting alone, being quiet, or having a difficult moment doesn't always mean your daughter is struggling
    • How to listen to your daughter's experience before jumping in to solve or fix it
    • Why not every hard feeling needs to be taken away—and how simply being there can help
    • The importance of noticing what's going right, including your daughter's courage, creativity, kindness, and the moments when she feels most like herself
    • How specific observations can give your daughter evidence about who she is and help her recognize strengths she may not see yet
    • What belonging really means—and why it's less about being included everywhere and more about having people and places where she can be herself

Join Melissa for a thoughtful conversation about paying attention without overanalyzing, supporting your daughter without taking over, and giving her the powerful experience of being known for who she already is. Because sometimes the greatest gift we can give our daughters isn't telling them who they're supposed to become, but helping them learn to see the person they already are.

  • When Her Best Friend Doesn’t Feel Like Her Best Friend Anymore: 5 Ways to Help
    2026/08/25

Welcome back to Raising Confident Girls. In this episode, Melissa Jones explores what to do when your daughter's closest friendship starts to feel different. Drawing on nearly three decades of working with girls, Melissa explains why a changing friendship doesn't always mean someone did something wrong or that the friendship is ending. She shares practical ways parents can listen, understand what their daughter is experiencing, and help her recognize when a friendship is still mutual—and when she may be working too hard to hold it together.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • Why parents shouldn't decide what a friendship change means before understanding what their daughter is experiencing
    • How different expectations about closeness can create hurt feelings between friends
    • Why helping your daughter name what she misses can clarify what's really bothering her
    • How to recognize the difference between a changing friendship and a pattern of behavior that repeatedly hurts your daughter
    • The difference between reaching toward a friend and chasing someone to choose you
    • How to help your daughter notice whether a friendship is giving something back to her
    • Why your daughter can care about a changing friendship while staying open to new and growing relationships
    • How parents can support their daughters without trying to fix the friendship or choose a replacement friend

Join Melissa for a thoughtful conversation about helping your daughter navigate friendship changes with empathy, honesty, and self-respect—and learning that she can care deeply about someone without abandoning herself in the process.

  • Pep Talk: When “How Was Your Day?” Gets You “Fine” — Try This Instead
    2026/08/21

Welcome back to Pep Talk Friday, an episode of Raising Confident Girls. In this episode, Melissa Jones talks about one tiny word that can leave moms wondering what’s really going on: “Fine.” When your daughter gives you a short answer about her day, it can be tempting to ask more questions, fill in the gaps, or worry that something is wrong. Melissa offers a gentle reminder that sometimes fine really does mean fine—and that connection isn’t built by getting your daughter to tell you everything.

    Tune in to discover:

    • Why “fine” doesn’t always mean your daughter is hiding something
    • How asking smaller, more specific questions can create easier openings for conversation
    • Why sharing something from your own day can invite connection without turning it into a strategy
    • The importance of giving your daughter space when she isn’t ready to talk
    • Why you shouldn’t measure your relationship by one quiet car ride or one short conversation
    • How ordinary, everyday moments can build trust and connection over time

This episode is a reminder that you don’t need the perfect question or a daughter who tells you everything. Keep showing interest, keep listening when she opens the door, and let her know that when she has something to share, you’re there. Sometimes connection sounds like a long conversation—and sometimes it sounds like, “How was your day?” “Fine.” And that can be perfectly fine.
