    In this episode of Books@HSS, Nauman Faizi hosts Ali Raza, and they talk about his book, Revolutionary Pasts: Communist Internationalism in Colonial India.

    Ali Raza is an Associate Professor of History at LUMS University, Lahore, whose work focuses on South Asia. He received his DPhil from the University of Oxford and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient in Berlin. His research and teaching interests include the social and intellectual history of South Asia, comparative colonialisms, anti-colonialism/decolonization, and post-colonial theory. He is the author of Revolutionary Pasts: Communist Internationalism in Colonial India (Cambridge University Press, 2020). His book narrates the lives, geographies, dreams, and anti-colonial struggles of Indian revolutionaries and how they sought to remake the world. The book was shortlisted for the Royal Historical Society's Gladstone Book Prize and the Karwaan Book Award.

    Nauman Faizi is an Associate Professor of Religion at LUMS University, Lahore. He is the author of 𝘎𝘰𝘥, 𝘚𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧: 𝘔𝘶𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘥 𝘐𝘲𝘣𝘢𝘭 '𝘴 𝘙𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘙𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2021).     In this episode of Books@HSS, Nauman Faizi hosts Asma Faiz, and they talk about her book: "In Search of Lost Glory: Sindhi Nationalism in Pakistan". Dr. Asma Faiz is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the Mushtaq Ahmed Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS). She did her Ph.D. in Political Science from Sciences Po, Paris (2017) and M.Sc. in Political Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2011). Dr. Faiz’s research focuses on ethnic nationalism, populism, ethnic parties and federalism. She is the author of the book In Search of Lost Glory: Sindhi Nationalism in Pakistan (Hurst Publishers, 2021). Dr. Faiz also edited a volume Making Federation Work: Federalism in Pakistan After the 18th Amendment (2015). Dr. Faiz is recipient of several fellowships including the Fulbright fellowship, Campus France Fellowship and the Rangoonwalla fellowship at Oxford. Dr. Nauman Faizi is an Associate Professor of Religion at LUMS University, Lahore. Waqar Zaidi is Associate Professor of History at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at LUMS. He was recently a Member at the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, and Verville Fellow at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC. His research focuses on the relationship(s) between technology and international relations in the twentieth century. Current research interests include scientific and technological internationalism, aviation, atomic energy, arms control, and A.I. His first book, titled 𝘛𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘖𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳: 𝘈𝘷𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘈𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘌𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘗𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦 1920-50, was published with Cambridge University Press in 2021. The book was awarded the 2022 International Committee for the History of Technology (ICOHTEC) Turriano Prize for the best book in the history of technology.     Mohammad Waseem is Professor of Political Science at LUMS University, Lahore. He was Chairman of the International Relations Department, Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad. He has written on ethnic, Islamic, constitutional, electoral and sectarian politics of Pakistan. His books include: Politics and the State in Pakistan (1989), The 1993 Elections in Pakistan (1994) and Strengthening of Democracy in Pakistan (co-authored with S.J. Burki) (2002). He also edited the book Electoral Reform in Pakistan (2002).

    Nauman Faizi is Assistant Professor of Religion at LUMS University, Lahore. He is the author of God, Science, and Self: Muhammad Iqbal’s Reconstruction of Religious Thought(McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2021). His research interests include philosophy of religion, philosophical and scriptural hermeneutics, semiotics, and questions at the interface of religion and modernity.

    Maryam Wasif Khan is Associate Professor of Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies at LUMS University, Lahore. Her first book, 𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘪𝘮? 𝘖𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘗𝘰𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘮𝘴 (Fordham University Press, 2021), argues for a renewed interrogation of the European scholarly discipline and cultural practice, orientalism, and its influence on modern vernacular literatures. Her second project revisits her undergraduate studies in literature at Princeton and engages with her present teaching to think through the possibilities contained in canonical Western texts once they are dislocated from the Euro-American academy.
