Robert Johnson is a retired NYPD Detective Lieutenant, author, and lifelong protector.

He began his career as a nightclub bouncer in New York City during the 1980s and early 1990s before joining the NYPD in 1992, where he rose through the ranks to Detective, Sergeant, and Lieutenant.

That real-world experience in crime, protection, and justice is the backbone of everything he writes.

Robert is the author of three books: his memoir From Prey to Protector, the New York crime novel The Bebop Bouncer, a New York Tale, and his latest release — The Wise Detective and The Sunrise Reaper — a stand-alone crime/thriller prequel to The Bebop Bouncer, now available on Amazon.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from St. John's University and a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Boston University.

  • From Domestic Violence Victim To NYPD Captain
    2026/05/09

LaDatra Turner didn't grow up dreaming of wearing the badge. She grew up fast — in a Queens household shaped by her father's mental illness, drug addiction, and domestic violence. She found her way into law enforcement almost by accident, driven by one purpose: providing for her daughter.

What followed was 25 years of service, every rank from officer to captain, and a story she kept buried the entire time. A story about becoming a domestic violence victim herself while wearing the badge. About shame, silence, sacrifice, and survival.

In this episode, she finally tells it all.

From the grind of climbing every rank, to the personal cost of each exam, to what she's building in retirement — this is one of the most honest conversations we've had on this show.

For every first responder who has ever felt defined by the badge — this one is for you.

    New episodes every Tuesday.
