On the afternoon of April 16, 1998, a spotter reported a funnel cloud near Pulaski, Tennessee, about seventy miles south of Nashville. At 2:47 PM the tornado touched down, already a violent wedge nearly a mile wide. This episode reconstructs one of the most extreme storms in the state's history: an F5 on the Fujita scale, with estimated winds exceeding 260 miles per hour. The timeline moves minute by minute through Giles County, from the mobile home park on the western edge of town, across U.S. Highway 31 at 2:53 PM, and into downtown Pulaski at 2:56 PM, where the peak of the storm passed directly over the courthouse square and the courthouse itself sustained heavy damage. The tornado lifted around 3:10 PM after a roughly fifteen-mile path. The documentary also examines the storm's legacy, including its influence on the development of the Enhanced Fujita Scale and its place among Tennessee's rarest tornado events.
