  • How to Avoid Dead-Freight
    2022/10/26
“The post-mortem for a problem can be the preamble to a solution"- that is from Dan Heath, the best- selling author of the book entitled Upstream: The quest to solve problems before they happen. In layman’s term- that means to solve a problem, one must get closer and to emersed oneself to the specifics of the problem by feeling it or by simulations. Like you may go as undercover boss or drive along with a truck driver to feel the pains and figure out ways to avoid problems downstream. One of the most dreaded “D” terms in logistics transportation is dead- freight. There are other “D” terms in Logistics such as Demurrage and Detention, but today let’s talk about Dead- freight. In business, when you hear logistics talking or reporting this term- that is not good. In Logistics parlance- this term connotes an additional cost or large amount of fees, it also indicative of delays and internal problems or inefficiencies. Let me discuss and cite some of the pro- tips to avoid it, in a way that is in a very upstream level of solving before this could happen. Reference: Dead freight - Logistics Glossary: https://www.logisticsglossary.com/term/dead-freight/ Book: "Upstream: The Quest to Solve Problems Before They Happen" by Dan Heath, 2020. The music is “Always” by David Tolk.

  • The (High) Cost of Non- Compliance Due to Import-Export Trade Policy
    2022/05/21

"If you think compliance is expensive - try non-compliance.”- said Paul McNulty- a Former U.S. Deputy Attorney General of the US Department of Justice. There is a lot of implications in that statement, and today’s topic is about the significance of having an import- export compliance policy especially for manufacturing and commercial business dealing with the international trade shipping and compliance. Let me outline at least four basic reasons- it’s a must- have to have a well-written implementing rules and policy.
