  • 5 Signs Termites May Be Trying to Invade Your Home This Spring
    2026/06/03

Spring in Georgia is beautiful—but for homeowners, it also marks the beginning of termite swarm season. Every year, termites cause billions of dollars in property damage across the United States.

    1. Flying Termites Around Your Home

Flying termites, also called swarmers, are one of the most common signs of nearby termite activity.

    2. Discarded Wings

After swarmers settle, they shed their wings near windows, doors, and light fixtures.

    3. Mud Tubes Along Foundations

Subterranean termites build mud tubes to safely travel between soil and structures.

    4. Soft or Damaged Wood

Termites feed from the inside out, often causing hidden structural damage.

    5. Excess Moisture Around the Home

Leaky faucets, poor drainage, and standing water create ideal conditions for termites.

    Why Professional Inspections Matter

Professional inspections help identify hidden termite activity before expensive repairs become necessary.

  • Why Spring Is Prime Time for Pest Problems in Metro Atlanta
    2026/05/27

Spring in Metro Atlanta brings warmer temperatures, blooming flowers, longer days—and unfortunately, more pest activity. As the weather changes, pests begin searching for food, water, and shelter, which often leads them directly into homes and businesses.

At Power House Termite and Pest Control, we see a major increase in pest pressure every spring across Stockbridge and the surrounding Metro Atlanta communities. Understanding why pests become active this time of year can help homeowners stay ahead before small issues become major infestations.

Why Pests Become More Active in Spring

During the winter, many pests slow down or hide in protected areas to survive colder temperatures. Once spring arrives, they begin reproducing, building colonies, and searching aggressively for resources.

Georgia’s combination of warmth, humidity, and spring rain creates the perfect environment for ants, termites, mosquitoes, spiders, roaches, and wasps.

    Prevention Is Better Than Reaction

One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make is waiting until pests become overwhelming before seeking professional help. Preventative pest control helps stop infestations before they start.

Since 2002, families throughout Metro Atlanta have trusted Power House to deliver professional, reliable pest control with on-time appointments and customized treatment plans.

  • Why Ants Keep Coming Back — And How to Stop Them for Good
    2026/04/30
Why Ants Keep Coming Back — And How to Stop Them for GoodIf you’ve sprayed the trail, wiped down the counter, and watched them come right back the next morning — this is for you. You’re not doing anything wrong. The spray isn’t failing because you used the wrong brand. It’s failing because the problem was never on your counter to begin with. What’s Actually Happening in Your HomeHere’s what most homeowners don’t know about ants. The ones you see are scouts. Their entire job is to find food, moisture, or shelter and report back. When a scout finds something worth having, it leaves a chemical trail — a pheromone highway that directs the rest of the colony straight to your kitchen, your cabinets, your pet’s food bowl.Wiping away the visible ants clears the workers. It doesn’t touch the trail. It doesn’t touch the queen. And as long as the queen is alive and the colony is intact, more workers are hatching every single day.Store-bought sprays work the same way. They kill what’s in front of you. The source — which could be thousands of ants living in a wall void, under a slab, or deep in a crawl space — keeps producing. That’s why they keep coming back. Every time.Barbara’s StoryI want to tell you about Barbara from Jonesboro, Georgia.Barbara had been dealing with an ant infestation for ten years. Not a few ants on the counter — ants everywhere. In her cupboards. In her food. In her purse. In ten years, she had called Orkin. She had called Terminix. She had called the other big national company. None of them solved her problem. When Powerhouse arrived, George didn’t start at the kitchen. He started at the crawl space.Under the vapor barrier, he found the nest. Thousands of ants. A colony that had been building for years, completely untouched by every treatment that had only ever addressed the workers coming up into the house. One visit. Ten years of frustration — gone.Barbara’s story isn’t unusual. It’s what happens when the source never gets found. Why the Big National Companies Keep Missing ItOrkin and Terminix are excellent at treating what’s visible. Quarterly perimeter spray, bait stations near the entry points, treatment along the baseboards. What they’re not always equipped to do is spend the time it takes to find a colony that isn’t where you’d expect it to be.Georgia’s warm climate means ant colonies stay active most of the year. They go deep. They get comfortable. And they get very good at staying hidden.Finding them requires knowing where to look — and being willing to look in places that take more time than a standard service call allows. What Powerhouse Does DifferentlyAt Powerhouse Pest Control, we don’t treat the ants you can see. We find the colony.Every service starts with a thorough inspection — baseboards, entry points, moisture sources, crawl spaces, attic, under appliances. We identify the ant species, because different species nest differently and respond to different treatments. Then we treat the colony at its source and build a protective barrier around your home’s entire perimeter. And if ants come back between your scheduled treatments — so do we. Unlimited service calls. No extra charges. No “that’s not covered” conversation. Our Deluxe plan covers ants as part of comprehensive year-round protection — along with mosquitoes, spiders, roaches, rodents, and more. One plan. Everything handled. And like everything we do at Powerhouse, it’s backed by our 100% money-back guarantee. If you’re not completely satisfied, you pay nothing. What’s Attracting Them Into Your HomeWhile we find and eliminate the colony, here’s what helps keep them from coming back:Ants are looking for three things — food, moisture, and entry points. Leaking pipes under sinks, standing water, crumbs in corners, pet food left out overnight, and small gaps around doors and windows give them everything they need. Addressing these conditions alongside professional treatment is what produces lasting results. Our inspection identifies these conditions as part of every service. You’ll know exactly what we found and what to watch for.You Shouldn’t Have to Live With ThisTen years is too long. One year is too long. One month is too long.If ants have become a part of your daily life — showing up in your kitchen, your pantry, your pet’s bowl — there’s a source somewhere that hasn’t been found yet. Let us find it.Call 770-389-5808 or visit powerhousepestcontrol.com to schedule your free inspection today.Because somewhere in or around your home, there’s a colony that’s been there a lot longer than you realize. And it’s time to find it.Powerhouse Pest Control | Stockbridge, Georgia | Serving homeowners in Metro Atlanta who are done fighting ants alone The post Why Ants Keep Coming Back — And How to Stop Them for Good appeared first on Powerhousepestcontrol.

  • The Most Expensive Mistake Georgia Homebuyers Make And How to Avoid It
    2026/04/23
The Most Expensive Mistake Georgia Homebuyers Make — And How to Avoid ItYou’ve found the house. The offer is accepted. Closing is weeks away. Everything feels like it’s finally coming together. And then the termites swarm out of the baseboards. Not after a storm. Not because of something you did. Because a colony had been living inside those walls for years — long before you ever walked through the front door. You just didn’t know it yet. This Has Happened to Real Homeowners in GeorgiaAt Powerhouse Pest Control, we’ve gotten those calls.A homeowner called us because termites had swarmed out of the baseboards in their new home. They had just purchased the property months earlier and had no idea what they were walking into.“When we arrived, termites had swarmed out of the baseboards. A colony that size doesn’t appear overnight. Based on what we saw, they’d been there at least three to five years. That infestation was present the day that family signed their closing papers. They just didn’t know to look for it.” — George Burnett, Powerhouse Pest ControlThe damage was already done. The negotiation window was closed. The family owned the problem now.A termite inspection before closing would have changed everything. What a Termite Inspection Actually DoesA standard home inspection does not cover termites. In Georgia, a separate Wood Destroying Organism report — commonly called a WDO — is required by many lenders and always recommended for buyers.A professional termite inspection evaluates the entire property for signs of active infestation, previous treatments, moisture problems, and structural vulnerabilities. It gives you a clear picture of what you’re actually buying. And here’s the part most buyers don’t realize: even if your lender doesn’t require it, getting the inspection anyway protects you in two critical ways.1. It Gives You Negotiating PowerIf termite activity or damage is discovered during the pre-purchase inspection, you have options. You can negotiate the cost of treatment and repairs out of the purchase price. You can ask the seller to remediate it before closing. You can walk away entirely.Once you’ve signed and closed, those options are gone. The house — and everything living inside it — is yours.2. It Protects Your Single Biggest InvestmentFor most families, a home is the largest purchase they will ever make. Termite damage isn’t always visible. It hides inside walls, under floors, in crawl spaces. By the time you see it, the repair bill can reach into the tens of thousands of dollars.A termite inspection typically costs a fraction of that. If it costs you dollars, it doesn’t make sense. How Powerhouse Approaches Real Estate InspectionsAt Powerhouse Pest Control, we treat every real estate inspection with the same diligence we’d want if we were the ones buying the home.We evaluate the entire property — not just the obvious spots. We explain our findings clearly and answer every question you have. And we make sure you walk away understanding exactly what we found and what it means for your purchase.Whether your lender requires a WDO report or not, we’ll give you the full picture. Because you deserve to know what’s in the home before you sign for it.Don’t Close Without ThisBuying a home in Georgia without a termite inspection isn’t just risky — it’s the kind of risk that follows you for years.Call Powerhouse Pest Control before your closing date. We’ll schedule your inspection, complete the Wood Destroying Organism report, and make sure you have everything you need — with time to act on it if anything is found.Call 770-389-5808 or visit powerhousepestcontrol.com to schedule your inspection today.Because the best time to find a termite problem is before it’s yours.Powerhouse Pest Control | Stockbridge, Georgia | Serving homebuyers who want to know exactly what they’re buying The post The Most Expensive Mistake Georgia Homebuyers Make And How to Avoid It appeared first on Powerhousepestcontrol.

  • “Seeing More Spiders in Your Georgia Home? Here’s What It Usually Means.”
    2026/04/16

Hi, I’m George Burnett with Powerhouse Pest Control in Stockbridge, Georgia.

And today I want to talk about something a lot of homeowners around here are dealing with right now — spiders showing up inside the house.

If you’ve been noticing more of them lately, you’re not imagining it. And here’s the thing —
it’s usually not just about spiders.

When the seasons change here in Georgia, entire pest populations move indoors at once. They’re looking for warmth, shelter, and food. Spiders just tend to be the ones you notice first.

But here’s what most homeowners don’t know.

Spiders don’t show up randomly. They follow their food. So if spiders are showing up inside your home — ants, flies, beetles, or something worse are almost certainly already there too.

The spider on your wall is visible. What’s less visible — the insects they’re following into your attic, your crawl space, behind your appliances — that’s usually the bigger story.

By the time spiders are active inside your home, something has already set up camp somewhere you can’t see it.

The spider is the symptom. The infestation is the problem.

Now — a lot of folks grab a can of spray from the hardware store. And I get it. It seems like the quick fix.

But here’s why the spiders keep coming back.

Store-bought sprays kill what you can see. They don’t find the entry points. They don’t treat the nesting areas. And they don’t touch the insect activity that brought the spiders inside in the first place.

So two weeks later — they’re back. Because nothing that invited them in was ever fixed.

At Powerhouse Pest Control, we treat the whole home. Not just what’s visible.

Every service starts with a complete inspection. We’re checking the baseboards, the eaves, the attic, under the major appliances — because that’s where pest activity lives before you ever see it.

We locate the access points. We remove the webs. We treat the nesting areas. And we build a protective barrier around your entire perimeter.

We also treat the insects that spiders feed on — so we’re eliminating the food source, not just the spider itself.

And if pests come back between your scheduled treatments — so do we.

Unlimited service calls. No extra charges. No “sorry, that’s not covered” phone calls. Ever.

    Here’s our promise to you.

Every service we provide is backed by a one hundred percent money back guarantee. If you’re not completely satisfied — you pay nothing.

That’s not a marketing line. That’s just how we do business here in Stockbridge.

So if you’ve been seeing spiders — or anything else that’s making you wonder what’s really going on inside your home — let us take a look.

We’re offering free inspections for homeowners in the area right now. We’ll tell you exactly what’s going on — no obligation, no pressure, no sales pitch. Just answers.

  • Crane Flies in Your Yard: What Metro Atlanta Homeowners Should Know
    2026/04/02

Many homeowners become concerned when they see large insects that look like giant mosquitoes flying around their yard or porch lights. These insects are usually crane flies, sometimes called mosquito hawks.

Despite their appearance, crane flies do not bite people and they do not eat mosquitoes.

Adult crane flies live only a few days and are mostly harmless. However, their presence may indicate activity beneath the lawn. Their larvae live in soil and feed on grass roots.

Crane fly larvae, sometimes called leatherjackets, develop in moist turf areas. In large numbers, they can damage lawns by feeding on roots, causing grass to thin or develop brown patches.

Signs of crane fly activity include:
    • Large mosquito-like insects flying around lights
    • Weak or thinning areas in the lawn
    • Increased bird activity feeding on larvae in the yard

Crane flies are most commonly seen during the spring and fall when adults emerge from the soil.

Proper lawn care and targeted pest treatments can reduce crane fly larvae before they damage turf.

At Power House Termite & Pest Control, we help homeowners across Stockbridge and Metro Atlanta identify lawn pests and protect their property from damage.

A healthy lawn and pest-free home go hand in hand—and our team is here to help.

  • Mosquito Control in Stockbridge, GA: Take Back Your Backyard
    2026/03/26

Mosquitoes are one of the most frustrating pests homeowners deal with during the warm months in Stockbridge and Metro Atlanta. Just a few mosquitoes can quickly turn a relaxing evening outdoors into an uncomfortable experience.

Beyond itchy bites, mosquitoes are known carriers of diseases and can make outdoor spaces nearly unusable if populations grow too large.

Mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water. Surprisingly, it only takes a bottle-cap amount of water for mosquito larvae to develop.

    Common breeding areas include:
    • Bird baths
    • Flower pots and plant trays
    • Clogged gutters
    • Buckets and containers
    • Low spots in the yard where water collects

While eliminating standing water helps reduce mosquito populations, mosquitoes can travel from neighboring properties, which means DIY solutions often provide only temporary relief.

Professional mosquito control treatments target areas where mosquitoes hide during the day, including shrubs, tall grass, and shaded landscaping.

At Power House Termite & Pest Control, our mosquito control program helps families across Stockbridge, McDonough, and the Metro Atlanta area enjoy their outdoor spaces again.

You deserve a backyard where you can relax, grill, and spend time with family—without mosquitoes.
