  • Terry Etam: What Canada Gets Wrong on Energy
    2026/02/07

Terry Etam is one of Canada's most outspoken energy thinkers — a former insider turned straight-talking columnist, and the author of The End of Fossil Fuel Insanity. In this wide-ranging Power Struggle conversation with Stewart Muir, Etam lays out what he calls the “energy literacy” gap — the disconnect between public perception and the real-world complexities of energy.

He tackles the myths around pipelines and renewables, explains why the EV mandate misses the mark, and why Canada’s permitting system is broken. Etam calls for pragmatic policy, streamlined infrastructure approvals, and a renewed respect for the people and regions that power the country. From his prairie roots to a career across every corner of the industry, his message is simple: Canada’s future depends on facts, not fantasies.

Don’t miss this honest and urgent episode for anyone who cares about energy, economy, and how we keep the lights on.

  • Is Alberta Ready to Lead the World in Energy - Minister Of Energy and Minerals Brian Jean
    2026/01/31

Alberta’s oil, gas, and lithium resources are massive — and so are the stakes. In this exclusive Power Struggle episode, Energy Minister Brian Jean joins Stewart Muir to discuss Canada’s global energy role, the new “Grand Bargain” with Ottawa, and why a pipeline to the Pacific could change everything.

Jean argues Alberta’s energy is not just a provincial asset — it’s a national tool for prosperity, security, and reconciliation. From Trans Mountain to lithium extraction, carbon fiber innovation to base-load reliability, he lays out a high-stakes vision for energy independence and economic growth.

Recorded in January 2026, this conversation touches on U.S.–Canada trade, Asia’s growing demand for heavy crude, Indigenous equity partnerships, and how Alberta plans to power not just itself — but BC, the North, and beyond.

Watch now to hear how decisions made today will echo for decades.

  • Is Canada’s Clean Economy Strategy Failing? | Karen Graham on Reality, Resilience & What’s Next
    2026/01/24

As chair of the Resource Works Advisory Council, Karen Graham brings two decades of experience in public policy, resource development, and environmental governance. In this episode, she joins Stewart Muir to dissect Canada’s “clean economy” — from the promise of BC’s early carbon tax experiments to the patchwork of federal and provincial policies that followed.

Graham breaks down the gap between climate ideals and economic realities, questions whether Ottawa’s approach has sidelined traditional resource sectors, and explores why public sentiment is shifting back toward pragmatism. From $350/ton penalties on gas to the return of pipeline politics, this is a deep dive into what worked, what didn’t, and what Canada must do next.

Is a simpler, "all-of-the-above" strategy finally on the table?
Can Canada balance emissions goals with energy security?
What does the $144B “clean economy” really mean for GDP?

This is a must-watch for anyone tracking the intersection of policy, prosperity, and public trust.

  • Is Canada Wasting Its Energy Advantage? | Doomberg on Oil, LNG, and the Pipeline Future
    2026/01/17

Is the real energy crisis a shortage of molecules — or a shortage of common sense?

In this high-stakes episode of Power Struggle, energy commentator Doomberg returns to break down Canada’s position on the global energy chessboard. From Venezuela’s heavy crude to Alberta’s untapped potential, he argues Canada should be a global energy powerhouse — if only it could get out of its own way.

With host Stewart Muir, Doomberg explores:

    • Why Venezuela’s oil isn’t the threat it seems
    • What Trump’s second term means for pipelines
    • How Canada’s LNG timing still matters — and why it’s not too late
    • Why Saskatchewan is a “hidden gem” in global resource politics
    • The risks of land uncertainty and climate narratives in B.C.
    • Why Canada must diversify beyond a single trading partner

This episode goes beyond headlines, cutting through spin to expose the physics and economics behind energy decisions that shape our future.

Don’t miss this unfiltered perspective on what’s really driving energy geopolitics — and what Canada must do to stay in the game.

  • Is Canadian LNG a Climate Solution? | Mark Cameron on Energy, Exports & Emissions
    2025/12/21

Canada’s energy exports are often criticized as a climate liability — but what if they could actually reduce global emissions?

In this episode of Power Struggle, Stewart Muir sits down with Mark Cameron — Fellow at the Public Policy Forum, Senior Associate with BlueSky Strategy Group, and former VP of External Relations at the Pathways Alliance and former Deputy Minister of Policy Coordination with the Government of Alberta — to unpack the findings of a groundbreaking report he co-authored: "Refuel".

Backed by advanced modeling from Navius Research, the study shows that scaling up Canadian LNG exports by 47 million tonnes per year could lead to a net global emissions reduction of 40 to 70 megatonnes annually, largely by displacing coal and higher-emitting alternatives.

    Cameron also reflects on:
    • Why carbon accounting should be global, not local
    • The growing role of Indigenous partnerships in energy development
    • How Canada compares to the U.S. on emissions intensity
    • What the new federal–Alberta MOU really means for climate and investment

This conversation cuts through the noise and reframes Canada’s place in the global energy transition.

  • Is Canada Ready to Lead in Both Tech and Resources?
    2025/12/14

In this episode of Power Struggle, Stewart Muir is joined by Nicole Brossard, Vice President for BC at Global Public Affairs, for a candid and far-reaching conversation about one of Canada’s biggest missed opportunities: the false divide between technology and natural resources.

From her deep experience in federal politics, public affairs, and economic development, Brossard challenges the outdated narrative that Canada must choose between innovation and extraction — and shows how integrating tech with resource industries is already driving solutions across climate, labour, and investment.

    They discuss:

    • Why government silos are stalling innovation.

    • How foreign investment is slipping away — and what to do about it.

    • The role of First Nations in reshaping project development.

    • What the post-secondary system must fix before AI changes everything.

    • And why Canada can’t afford to keep punching below its weight.

This isn’t just a debate about policy — it’s about building a smarter, stronger future.

Watch now to explore how Canada can break free from its false binaries — and finally start competing on the world stage.

  • Can Canada Really Afford the Green Transition? | Jerome Gessaroli on Energy, Economy & EVs
    2025/12/08

Canadians are starting to question the true cost of our energy transition. Finance professor and senior fellow Jerome Gessaroli joins Power Struggle to explain why many of our clean energy policies may be outpacing reality.

In this compelling conversation, Jerome breaks down the link between energy and economic growth, the regressive nature of EV mandates, the shaky economics of hydrogen, and why the dream of doubling non-U.S. exports may be more political fantasy than practical strategy. From BC’s energy bottlenecks to global trade dynamics, he shares a pragmatic roadmap for how Canada can balance ambition with feasibility—and why letting the market lead could help us get there faster.

Watch the full episode for clear-eyed insights on where we're headed, what we’re getting wrong, and how to avoid costly policy missteps.
