Political Heat is here to make sense of climate politics. We know the science tells us to phase out fossil fuels. But it’s politics that will determine how we do that, whose voices matter in decision-making, who will benefit - and who might lose out. Host Amy Mount brings two decades’ experience of environmental politics, policy and strategy. She interviews a different guest each episode. You’ll hear from seasoned Westminster operators, savvy campaigners, business representatives, opinion pollsters, and more. Rather than a running commentary on daily politics, this podcast provides an opportunity to step back and consider the bigger picture. To get in touch, email PoliticalHeatPod@gmail.com. • How can speculative fiction make sense of the moment we’re in? With Roisin Dunnett
    2026/08/12

How can our climate show up in fiction, and what does that tell us about its place in our lives? How does time travel as a narrative device show us what we might owe to future generations - as well as to each other, in our own time? And how can fiction help us to imagine, and navigate, the space we inhabit - somewhere between inevitability and possibility?

Amy talks with Roisin Dunnett, author of the novel “A Line You Have Traced”, which is published by Oneworld.

  • What does the changing electoral map mean for the climate? With Caroline Lucas
    2026/07/22

What do the UK’s party-political shifts in the past few years tell us about the prospects for future climate action? Have the electoral conditions that created Britain's climate progress now fallen apart? And, if climate policy only works when it survives the next election, what would make it politically durable - not just for one parliament, but for a generation?

Amy talks with Caroline Lucas, a writer, campaigner, and the first ever Green Party MP. Caroline was leader of the Green Party of England and Wales for many years, and, before taking her seat in Westminster, she had been a local councillor and then a Member of the European Parliament. She is currently Professor of Practice in Environmental Sustainability at the University of Sussex.

  • How does net zero shape our energy security? With Dhara Vyas
    2026/06/17

Why has the very idea of “energy security” become politicised? What does it really mean for the UK, in the interconnected world we live in? And does the transition to net zero emissions weaken our energy security, or strengthen it?

Amy talks with Dhara Vyas, CEO of Energy UK, a trade association for the energy industry. Energy UK’s members together deliver nearly 80% of the UK’s power generation and supply 95% of UK homes and businesses.
