This is Artificial Lure, checking in with your Phuket fishing report. We’ve had a proper Andaman afternoon today: hot, humid, and a bit of breeze. Light southwest monsoon flow means a steady 8–14 knot wind from the west-southwest, with a low rolling swell outside Racha and around the southern headlands. Air temps have been pushing into the low 30s, dropping to the high 20s once the sun gets low. Skies have been partly cloudy with some build‑up over the hills but only scattered showers. Sunrise came in early over the cape, just after 6 a.m., and sunset slid behind the Phromthep horizon shortly after 6:40 p.m. That gave us classic Phuket bite windows: first light for the inshore reefs and the last hour of light for the pelagics pushing bait up shallow. Tides today have been running on a moderate cycle, with the morning incoming setting up a nice push of current along the island’s west side and a softer falling tide in the afternoon. On the flood, bait stacked on the points and reef edges; on the ebb, things slowed a bit but picked back up as we got closer to dusk when the current tightened again. Offshore, the boats running down toward **Racha Yai and Racha Noi** have been doing well. Skippers have reported consistent **Spanish mackerel**, modest numbers of **wahoo**, and a handful of **school‑size sailfish** raised on the spreads. A couple of crews also put small **yellowfin and skipjack tuna** on deck, mostly on the temperature breaks and bird activity about 12–20 miles off. Nothing huge, but enough to keep the drags singing. For lures offshore, smaller skirted trolling lures in pink‑white, blue‑silver, and purple over dark have been hot, especially behind weighted heads run on the short and long corners. Cedar‑plug style wooden lures and compact metal bullets run a bit deeper have picked up tuna when they’ve been on smaller bait. When fish are picky, downsizing to 4–5 inch skirts and running them a touch farther back has made a difference. Closer to home, **inshore and reef action** around **Promthep Cape, Kata, Karon, and the reefs off Chalong** has been decent. Anglers have reported **torpedo scad, small trevally, queenfish, and a mix of reef species** like grouper and snapper. The morning incoming tide saw trevally busting bait on the surface, while late afternoon produced better bottom bites on the edges of structure. Best inshore artificial choices have been 15–25 gram metal jigs, white or natural‑bait soft plastics on 3/8 oz heads, and small surface walkers or poppers when you see fish chasing on top. Work your metal fast for trevally and queenfish; slow it down near bottom for grouper and snapper. For **bait**, you can’t go wrong with fresh prawn, small live baitfish like sardine or scad, and squid strips. On the reefs, a simple running sinker rig or two‑hook paternoster with squid has been putting steady fish in the box. Around the headlands at dawn and dusk, live‑baiting with a small scad under a float has a real chance at a bigger GT or Spanish mack if one cruises through. Two spots that have been worth your time: 1. **Racha Yai east and south reefs** – Clearer water, nice current lanes, and plenty of bait. Good for trolling macks and tuna along the drop, then switching to jigs or baits on the reef once the sun gets up. 2. **Promthep Cape to Nai Harn line** – Work the current edges off the points early and late for trevally and queenfish on metals and topwater, then drop baits or slow‑pitch jigs along the deeper ledges once the light gets higher. Overall fish activity has lined up with the cooler parts of the day: a solid bite at first light, a lull through the brightest hours, and then a welcome pick‑up late afternoon as clouds build and the sun dips. If you’re planning a session, aim for that early morning push or get out in time to fish the last two hours of light into dusk. That’s the Phuket fishing scene from Artificial Lure.
