Immigration can feel complicated, confusing, and sometimes downright overwhelming—but it’s really about people and their stories. In this episode, Angie and Leslie sit down with Kristen, a corporate lawyer by day and an immigration attorney who works with refugees, to break down the jargon, myths, and real-life processes behind coming to the United States.
We cover everything from refugees and asylum seekers, to work visas, DACA, and temporary protections, and explain what the process really looks like—from background checks to resettlement. Kristen also helps us separate myth from reality: Do immigrants take our jobs or homes? Do they “get everything handed to them”? Spoiler: the answer is no.
We’ll also dive into how immigration benefits all of us, highlight risks under current policies, and discuss what regular people can do to support humane immigration. Plus, we give a peek at what’s happening in Utah and provide resources for listeners who want to help.
