Surviving Rock ’n’ Roll: Concert Mishaps, Heat, and Close Calls
Carlos Figueroa and Mike Hammer trade “park bench perspective” banter before sharing stories about concerts being hazardous. They recall a late-’90s Bob Dylan/Paul Simon show at Canterbury where Carlos became dangerously dehydrated in the heat, was taken by medical staff for water and cooling, then returned to finish the show. They revisit a teen-era Neil Young concert at Met Stadium involving long waits for tickets, heavy intoxication, and Mike accidentally setting his shirt on fire with a cigarette, plus a friend falling on the stairs. Carlos tells of an early-2000s Xcel Energy Center show where a diabetic friend was handcuffed after reacting to a paramedic, forcing Carlos to drive a large van and miss “Night Moves.” Other tales include sneaking into a Neil Young show in Perham, a memorable Paul McCartney performance, and risky scooter travel after a Rolling Stones concert in Denver. They close by inviting St. Louis Park alumni guests and chatting about caring for multiple dogs.
