We're looking at excellent conditions today on the Pacific side. Sunrise came through around 6:15 this morning, and we've got sunset holding steady around 6:45 PM—that gives us a solid twelve-hour window to work with.
The tide's running favorable right now with a high tide early this morning and another push coming through late afternoon. That midday slack period around noon is perfect for working the deeper channels where the big ones are holding.
Weather-wise, we're sitting pretty with light winds from the southwest, maybe 8 to 12 knots. The water's calm, visibility's good, and we're looking at scattered clouds but plenty of sunshine. Water temperature's holding around 82 degrees—prime time for everything swimming out here.
The bite's been strong lately. Roosterfish are absolutely aggressive right now—guys have been landing them consistently in the 40 to 60-pound range around the rocky points. Pacific Cubera Snapper are feeding heavy, plus good numbers of Pompano and Jack Crevalle in the shallower flats. Wahoo have been spotted cruising the deeper waters too.
For your tackle, bring live mackerel or mullet if you can get it—the roosterfish can't resist them. Artificial-wise, you'll want 4 to 6-inch silver and blue swimmers, popping plugs for the surface action, and some heavy iron jigs for when they're deeper. The 20 to 30-pound test is your sweet spot today.
Hit up Contadora Island if you want consistent action—the reefs there are loaded. Second choice is the Naos Peninsula drop-offs where the structure holds everything from snappers to wahoo.
